Made some update to my site GoodEmailCode.com I've gone for a 70's feel to the light mode and 80's feel for the dark mode. I'm no designer so don't critique too hard. And updated the view-transitions so they work with the modern spec. I've also removed all JS because, who needs it.

🎉 Great news folks, the good people at Gmail have finally fixed the forced dark mode issue. In both the iOS and Android apps 🎉 They now support setting the color-scheme meta tag prevent the forced dark colors being used <meta name="color-scheme" content="light only" /> #EmailGeeks

That's great, however it does mean that your prefers-color-scheme: dark media queries will no longer render in some clients that normally support them such as AppleMail. To get those working again you need to reset the color-scheme with CSS :root{ color-scheme:light dark; }

A little extra test and I can see this fix only works for Google emails. If you are using Gmail for a non google account (sometimes referred to as GANGA) then the meta tag gets removed and the work around doesn't apply.

Sad news, unfortunately my time at CIO has come to an end. I’m looking at new opportunities doing fun things with email. If you’d like to work together or know of any suitable jobs going please drop me a message. I’m also open to short term gigs while I look for the right opportunity.

🎵 "30 year old shirt, never stopped me dreaming" 🎵 I picked this beauty up in Our Price back in 96. It's my lucky shirt, every time I wear it you can pretty much guarantee England will play a game of football. #FIFAWorldCup #ENG

It's weird how, the time between me buying this t-shirt and now is about the same as me buying this t-shirt and England winning the world cup. Really struggling to get my head around that.

Hi folks 👋 I'm launching a new YouTube channel for all things email dev. I've got a hand full of videos up already but a lot more to come. Take a look: mremail.dev/4w4l6jo Also let me know any content you'd like to see me cover. Cheers! #EmailGeeks

AXS tickets are terrible. I got an email, none of the images loaded and half the links didn't work. Carefully worked out it was maybe legit, but didn't follow the links directly. Need to download an app to get my tickets, so did that. And signed in.

Can't add a bank account. "Collection contains no element matching the predicate" The help is all in American, so not relevant. Tried another account and it worked, oh wait there's the original account too. Oh there is a fee for selling tickets, ok transactions aren't free but £12 is a bit much.

Oh and there is a buyer fee too, apparently that's higher! So anyone want some tickets for Nick Cave in Brighton? Face value (£75 each). Catch is you need to download the AXS app too. Then I can transfer them and no extra charge for either of us.

Needed to reset my password as it had expired so did that. The app offered a pass key, that didn't work. I have too many tickets so trying to sell a couple. So go to enter bank details for payment. It doesn't recognise a sort code with dashes like they always have, so removed them.

Love this write up about the @emailmarkup.org accessibility report from @srhdesign.co.uk Thanks for sharing 😁

🚨 "All About Email", Issue 241 is out now! In this week's email marketing newsletter: 99.88% of emails fail accessibility checks. We dig into the EMC's 2026 report, the top issues, what the EAA means, and what you can fix today. Read the full issue. 👇

I don't really use facebook anymore but just trying to list a wardrobe on marketplace and it blocked it, asking me for ID. As a side note, anyone want a large wardrobe, collect from Shoreham

The 2026 email accessibility report is now live. 99.88% of 376,348 triggered Serious or Critical accessibility issues. Once again, it's disappointing, most of these issues are quick easy fixes. We all need to do better, myself included.

I've been taking a bit of a dive in auto linking in email. It's one of those annoying issues that doesn't have one good fix, there is always some compromise. Hopefully this article will help you find the best (least bad) solutions for you. customer.io/learn/messag... #EmailGeeks

customer.ioEmail auto-linking: When it helps and how to fix it | customer.ioAuto-linking in email turns dates, numbers, and URLs into clickable actions—but not always the right ones. Here's how to prevent unwanted links without breaking accessibility.

New Outlook! Well we know what that means... New bugs! Oh great we're not using MS Word to render HTML anymore. Oh but now we have some weird inconsistent bugs. Fun. #EmailGeeks have learned that we can’t have nice things. customer.io/learn/messag...

customer.ioNew Outlook rendering issues: What breaks and why | customer.ioCSS breaking in New Outlook's preview pane? Here's what's causing the rendering issues—and a few ways to minimize the impact while the email community digs in.

I've been playing around with CSS random() in email. I'm loving the simplicity of the syntax, very intuitive to use, so i made a little fruit machine that creates a random result with every open. Here is the code, works in Safari and AppleMail 26.2+ parcel.io/e/0847bbd7-8... #EmilGeeks

It has been brought to my attention that Fruit machine is a British term. So here are some regional alternatives US - slot machine Australia - pokie Scots - puggie

You can always rely on Outlook to mess with your space mission

niki grayson@nikigrayson.com

right now the astronauts are calling houston because the computer on the spaceship is running two instances of microsoft outlook and they can't figure out why. nasa is about to remote into the computer

I know what you're thinking. "Hey Mark that's a Commodore PET, that wasn't released until 1977 and didn't have the ability to send email" Yeah, well it looks cooler than a DEC PDP-10 on a t-shirt, stop being so pedantic, it's called creative licence and no one will notice unless you point it out.

Ok I've done another video. Hey #EmailGeeks did you know over 80% of email clients support using grid and flex. That is true but it's clickbate, it's not quite as exciting or useful as it sounds, but I think there is still potential to do something cool with it. www.linkedin.com/posts/mjrobb...

linkedin.com#emailgeeks | Mark RobbinsUsing display:flex and display:grid in email. Support is way better than you might think, over 80% of email clients support it. However... this is email so there are a few catches to that statement. ...

I've been using flex as a progressive enhancement for columns for a while and it works well. But thinking I want to push some things further, let me know any cool tricks you have or any ideas of things I could explore.

Sorry I had to run off before the #SotB26 after party. Fatigue is hitting me very hard today. My pacing app is blowing up. Back in Shoreham now. Was great seeing everyone and meeting loads of new people. Until next time folks x

Loved this talk. I think I might have to borrow this, replace a space with a line break idea for our email minification. Outlook also doesn't like long lines of text.

Josh Tumath@joshtumath.uk

So they got their images, CSS and JS as small as they could. Could they minify their HTML? They only used line break characters, removed comments, removed whitespace. But IE didn't like the code all being on one line so they put a new line in first attribute of each element. #SotB26

Very much looking forward to #SotB2026 tomorrow, that came round fast! Very much dreading the early start for the long trek up north to the big city. Hope the trains wake up in time.

I was going to upload this video here too but it's over 100mb and I can't be bothered to compress it, so sharing the LinkedIn version. Anyway, here is a quick and cheesy video on Google force-dark mode and how I try and work with it in email. www.linkedin.com/posts/mjrobb... #EmailGeeks

Great article. Spoiler alert #EmailGeeks yes, you do still need it for your layout tables. But this is a good read to help understand how it it all works a bit better.

Because of AI, it's getting harder to be a public educator on the internet. Devs are watching far fewer tutorials and buying fewer paid courses, making it financially tough for teachers. If you like a creator's content and can spare some cash, find out how you can support them.

I made this "ad" for one of Cursor's recent features. It finally solves the terrible problem of knowing CSS.

🎉 Live from the CSS WG F2F: We just agreed to support multiple borders and outlines per element, comma-separated! But we can’t decide on the order: inside out or outside in? What feels more natural to you, A or B? (it needs to be the same across borders and outlines or different box-sizing values)
