I switched to a vertical mouse in an attempt to preempt any potential wrist health issues, but in doing so, I think I've injured my wrist. What am I doing wrong?

November was my month of Hades 2. I still haven't got the epilogue, but I did get the true ending, so I'm counting it as done, even though I'm going to continue playing it. In December I'm hoping to finally get to Expedition 33.

Ok so October was a very busy month. I was very productive. Shipped a few new features for Wheel of Names and made huge backend changes. That does mean that I didn't finish many games, though. Only one, in fact. BALL x PIT was a great little Breakout-meets-Vampire Survivors game.

In September I played a *lot* of Silksong. But that's not all! I also played Planet of Lana and Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Going to finish up my sub 30h 100% steel soul run, then move on to Hades 2!

Having completed the true ending of Silksong, I've gotta say that it's an absolute masterpiece. Team Cherry cooked, once again. The wait was so worth it.

August was fun. Only played A Way Out, In Stars and Time, and The Pathless. However, I did go to Gamescom with 4 of my friends! I went as Kelsier from Mistborn (we'll get a Mistborn game someday), and managed to play 4/8 games that were already on my wishlist before the event.

Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree felt pretty good to play, but man, the repetitive voice lines were a bit obnoxious. The Lonesome Guild seemed like it could be fun, but I didn't feel like I had enough time with it to really be able to judge it.

I didn't get to play Silksong, Star Birds, Bakudo, or Realm of Ink, but most of those are out very soon anyway. I played a bunch of other games, particularly indies. Of course my wishlist grew ~50%. Overall it was exhausting, both physically and mentally, but also really fun with friends!

Alabaster Dawn looks and plays amazing. Got to talk to one of the concept artists about how they do the insane animations without needing a trillion sprite variations. That game will be one of the greatest ever made when it's finally done, mark my words.

Unbeatable was really fun. I'm not a big rhythm gamer, and the controls took a little bit to get used to, but this is the one demo I've not been able to put down since Haste.

OK so *technically* I didn't finish any games in July, but I'm so far through Octopath Traveler 2 that I'm gonna count it anyway. This is all my friends' fault for making me prepare for and then play the Destiny contest raid. Now I've re-uninstalled it and I am free once more.

I've spent all month trying to work my way through Octopath Traveler 2. Now that I'm near the end, they go and announce Octopath Traveler 0. Can we chill for a bit? I need to catch up on all the other great games from the past couple years.

Friends have convinced me to do one last Destiny day-one raid with them. They sherpa'd me through the most recent dungeon today and I got the exotic twice. Bungie really does reserve the best luck for returning players.

June was great. I didn't play many games, but among them were some bangers. - Nine Sols - Peace, Death! - OneShot (and World Machine Edition) - Tower Wizard I also completed my first Hollow Knight randomizer run, which was fun.

May went well, relatively speaking, with 6 games completed. The Room Three The Room 4: Old Sins Bastion Cyberpunk 2077 It Takes Two Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart The next few months will probably be for high priority games that I want to play before Silksong.

April has mostly been a puzzle game month. Boxes, the Room 1 & 2, and most of all, Blue Prince. Also played Haste and Split Fiction to spice it up a bit. This has also been the month that I moved over to Linux for 90% of my daily computer use, including gaming.

Only finished Assassin's Creed Shadows in March, but I put over 20 hours into Two Point Museum, so I'm counting it as two games. Man, my momentum has completely halted, huh.

Assassin's Creed Shadows is the prettiest game I've ever played, and incredibly impressive from a technological standpoint. This is the first AC game I've enjoyed playing since Syndicate, and holy shit is it fun (despite some bugs).

Also Yasuke is the most gorgeous video game character I've ever laid eyes on. Massive respect to everyone involved in bringing him to life.

Sometimes I get the urge to start a blog, but then I remember that I barely post anything here. What makes me think I would write blog posts? and ones worth reading??

Between work and travel, I only finished 4 games in February, down from 11 last month. - LEGO Lord of the Rings - Metal Unit - Neva - The Star Named EOS My backlog is definitely longer now than it was a month ago. Hoping to turn the tide in March.

I love Firefox, but I'm starting to get real sick of how long it takes for CSS standards to be implemented. Feels like a bit of a sinking ship now that the Google search deal is dead (?), and I'm sad about it.

My favourite every-day tragedy is that I can never explain 95% of the cool things I do to improve my app to its users.

In January, I played 11 games start to finish. - Firewatch - LEGO Bricktales - The Beginner's Guide - Behind the Frame: The Finest Scenery - GRIS - Beacon Pines - Ghostrunner - Tiny Tina's Wonderlands - Prince of Persia The Lost Crown - Hi-Fi Rush - Terra Nil Let's see how February goes!

And with that, I've officially played 10 games from start to finish this January. Going to polish off some achievements before I take on a new batch of games in February.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a great β€” but flawed β€” game, and I will die on this hill. I think it was a worthy GotY contender. Also I love the soundtrack.

Whether or not you enjoy a game is hugely influenced by your personal taste, so I don't begrudge anyone their opinions if they didn't enjoy it. However, I think the massive culture war surrounding the game blew things way out of proportion and unduly hurt the game's reputation and sales.

Updating the Wheel of Names Discord bot to generate WebPs instead of GIFs has been a frustrating necessity. This thread will go over the reasons I did this, the impact on our users, and some details about what went into it.

Apart from that, not much will have changed. Some aspects of the image look better than before; some others, a little worse. The Discord client seems to take a bit longer to show the WebP animation than it did to show GIF animation. Hopefully that improves with time.

A lot of things had to change behind the scenes for this. I had to write a new library in Rust (a language I barely know) to interface between our Deno service and the webp-animation Rust crate. I made it as fast as I knew how, but I'm sure there are improvements to be made.

Updating the Wheel of Names Discord bot to generate WebPs instead of GIFs has been a frustrating necessity. This thread will go over the reasons I did this, the impact on our users, and some details about what went into it.

So first off, why? Discord recently reduced the file upload size limit for free users from 25MB to 10MB. The GIF format is unfortunately very inefficient, and many of the wheel spin GIFs we generated were above 10MB. WebP files are generally significantly smaller than GIFs at comparable quality.

OK, what's the user impact? The most noticeable thing will be that WebP files take longer to encode due to having more sophisticated compression. In general, 10-second spins with >100 entries can take up to 2.5x as long to render. 3-second spins with fewer entries are largely unaffected.

2025 will be the year of the backlog. So far, I've already started and finished 7 games that I've had laying in my Steam library for ages. Firewatch, LEGO Bricktales, The Beginner's Guide, Behind the Frame: The Perfect Scenery, GRIS, Beacon Pines, and Ghostrunner.

I got sick from a family gathering on Dec 20th, and somehow, almost 3 weeks later, I'm still coughing like crazy and going through 2+ packs of tissues a day. What the hell.

I think I'm fully done with Destiny. Haven't played in months, and it's bittersweet. I met many great friends and had many good times, but it's evident that the game will never again be what I want it to be. I look forward to playing a much greater variety of games this year.

I was 2 flawless raids off of max triumph score for over 3 years and have been playing off-and-on for 7. Over 5000 hours. Quitting has been rough due to FOMO, but understanding that the entire game is ephemeral and that Bungie will never move the game back the way I want it to go has helped.

I just published napi-webp-animation on NPM! This package lets you encode animated WebPs, which look better and are generally smaller than GIFs. I wrote it in Rust for speed (and to learn), but it has a simple and easy-to-use JavaScript/TypeScript API. www.npmjs.com/package/napi...

npmjs.comnapi-webp-animationA fully typed WebP animation package for NodeJS using Rust. Latest version: 0.1.0, last published: 14 minutes ago. Start using napi-webp-animation in your project by running `npm i napi-webp-animation...

I made this in 3 days, 2 of which were spent fighting the CI to get the build and tests to run correctly. I'm still a Rust newbie, so the code might not be optimal. If anyone who is good at Rust would like to take a look at the source, that would be sick.

Also yes, I made this because of Discord's file upload size limit reduction, and because I couldn't find any existing libraries that did this.

I wish Discord would support embedding other animated image formats than just GIF. AVIF, WebP, and PNG are all very standard formats that support animation, but show only the first frame in Discord, or don't embed at all.
