Just for fun, I ran an analysis on the most recent filing of the PACs named as "spam PACs" in an older Bonica article. Here's the (Claude generated, very fast) chart using reported definitions of outlay. There's some clear outliers, but nowhere near ~65% average spend on fundraising. More like ~25%.
That 13% to ads seems very low for any candidate with TV spend, unless you're marking the entire outlay to a media consultant as "consulting" and not "pass through media buying" (see my Platner piece where I walk through this cauldronllc.substack.com/p/how-did-th...)
Quick post, I am looking at Dan Osborn to see if he does worse this time around, because I'm worried that the "aligned Independent" play will age badly as voters learn more

I will again ask @esksf.bsky.social and @missionlocal.org to do an all-in-one-place explainer of wtf Calle 24 is and why anyone at City Hall and SFMTA care what they think
extremely dumb on like 12 different levels, honestly pretty fucking offensive too. I don’t like ChatGPT either but people are getting shot in the street.
How does one distinguish "good" conservative media firestorms from "bad" ones? It did not seem great for mainstream outlets to let James O'Keefe and his fellow travelers lead them around by the nose (up to and including the NYT partnering with someone to stovepipe agitprop)
Skocpol's piece on indivisible is one of the best pieces of political writing in the past few years - a battle between DC staffers who wanted to enforce priorities on grassroots activists

It’s official: I’m running for Congress to represent San Francisco!
I’ll fight for our city – against Trump’s takeover, for our values, & for real progress. I’ve delivered on housing, healthcare, clean energy, & civil rights – & I’ll do it again.
Let’s build the future our city & country deserve.
Scott Wiener is done waiting on Nancy Pelosi. He’s running in 2026, sources say
San Francisco’s state senator previously said he would wait for Pelosi to retire from Congress, but polling and a progressive challenger changed the game.

McDonnell v. United States isn't the only factor that led to this, but it's a major one, and it's in the Top 10 SCOTUS precedents that must be reversed. I don't care that it was unanimous.
The gutting thing is when I speak to anybody under 25 or so, and they… don’t know this is unusual. The only America they’ve ever known is this openly corrupt, broken one.
I read the sf chronicle. Not always the best paper or the most worldly, but at least I don’t get six Charlie Kirk articles in a row days after the fact.
It really does feel like the stock market is a graph of rich people feelings lately. (I don't think it was quite so true in the past, even if some grain of truth to it)
Exclusive from @nbcnews.com: Pentagon leaders are considering a recruiting campaign centered around Charlie Kirk. Possible slogans discussed include "Charlie has awakened a generation of warriors" and there's talk of using TPUSA chapters as recruitment centers. www.nbcnews.com/politics/nat...
JUST IN: Voters in San Francisco's Sunset District have recalled their supervisor, Joel Engardio.
Recall leads huge in early returns, nearly 2 to 1.
Engardio, who rode to office after himself working to recall SF progressives, then angered constituents by championing replacing the "Great Highway".

Stuff like this is where the whole Abundance concept (much of which strikes me as obviously correct and worthwhile) flies off the rails into faffing about that shouldn’t be taken seriously.
two thoughts. 1) this prose is *rough*. 2) describing weiss as possessing a “shit-kicking anti-establishment disposition” is evidence you’ve suffered a brain injury
Perplexity is doing something around $100mm of revenue.
They're valued at $18bn in their latest raise.
But they've got private credit commitments to make a $34.5bn acquisition.
I don't see how you get financial conditions looser than whatever the hell this is.
