AI made engineers faster. It didn't make teams faster. The constraint was never typing; it was everything around it. The SDLC is being rewritten, and we'd like to rewrite it with you. AI made engineers faster. It didn't make engineering orgs faster. The bottleneck didn't disappear. It moved into review queues, product specs, and token budgets nobody planned for. Our CEO, Fred Plais, breaks it down in our latest piece 👉 upsun.com/blog/ai-rewr... #SDLC #SoftwareDevelopment

"Tell me the code isn’t the prettiest, but it’s straightforward to debug, quick to review, and safe to change, and I’ll take it. In practice you rarely get those three without readable code, but readability was never the goal. It was a proxy." 👏 👏👏 developer.upsun.com/posts/insigh...

developer.upsun.comCode matters less than ever, and more than ever - Upsun DeveloperAI made code cheap to write and cheap to throw away, so it matters less than ever. It also matters more, because debugging, reviews, and velocity all depend on it.

If i can give junior developers just one piece of advice: never, EVER assume that what makes sense to you will make sense to anyone else. Always, ALWAYS challenge your assumptions. Ask your fellow devs to check your assumptions. Ask someone in a different role. Ask your MOM.

We keep saying: "AI will handle the boring stuff, and humans will supervise." But the problem is--as AI reliability improves, it becomes really hard to motivate a human to conscientiously monitor it. In a new WP with Gerard Cachon, we describe the "human-AI contracting paradox."

In short, the problem here is not that Signal ‘chose’ to run on AWS. The problem is the concentration of power in the infrastructure space that means there isn’t really another choice: the entire stack, practically speaking, is owned by 3-4 players. 11/

ICE would be wise to remember what it says in the Bible. Matthew 25:40 - "Truly I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of my brethren you did it to me."

I think one of the things that non-evangelicals find most annoying about evangelicals is when they claim that other people can’t lead happy and fulfilling lives unless they believe in the same things that they do.

Copy-editing AI generated content is *exhausting*. Far more difficult and time-consuming than copy-editing human-generated content. Even when it's correct, it's correct in a way that doesn't *quite* make sense unless you squint.

Am I the only one that finds most AI implementations exceptionally annoying? They're great when narrowly defined and closely monitored, but it's of no value when it isnt *accurate*. For example: what good is AI-generated meeting notes if only 80% of it is accurate and 20% is just completely made up?
