Joke’s on them when the agents become self-aware and unionize

Erin Kissane@kissane.myatproto.social

My hottest AI take is that the executive class is petrified of labor and saw that whatever else LLMs are/aren't, they're fine labor-smashers + that a ton of ordinary people find the artificial hyper-complexity and scamminess of modern life and work so unbearable that they'll throw a god-box at it.

Just a reminder that there is no good data to support these uses in K12, we are just testing it live all on kids who won’t ever be these ages again and can’t get them back if we fuck it up.

Carl T. Bergstrom@carlbergstrom.com

"AI can draft an essay for you, especially if you give it a high quality prompt." Really? This is what MIT thinks high schoolers should learn? MIT's "Day of AI" dayofai.org provides materials for K-12 teachers and claims to have reached over 5,000,000 students to date. 1/2

Kid already has cutting skills like Messi but no let’s trespass him from the soccer program Can’t wait for 2046 when he’s lifting the World Cup and one of these white kids turns to their parents and go, “isn’t he the boy you called the police on when he was 3?”

Phil Lewis@phillewis.bsky.social

I spoke to the mom of the 3-year-old soccer star who was left "thinking he did something wrong" after a league official called police "due to a disturbance between parents" The youth sports league said they launched a review and reached out to the family

BREAKING: Anthropic is warning investors that AI could pose catastrophic and even existential risks to humanity. The warning comes from its IPO filing, which Reuters reported devotes about 80 of its 261 pages to risk factors.

Flavio Bolsonaro has called for the annulment of Brazil’s presidential runoff after losing the election to President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in a chaotic vote marred by allegations of suppression and a last-minute extension of voting hours

Hep C used to be a death sentence; now there’s a cure Cancer deaths are down thanks to better environmental quality and better treatments Air quality has improved significantly; smog and haze are the exception, not the rule Renewable energy is increasingly cheap while we burn less coal than ever

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

I keep thinking that on January 21, 2027, JD Vance can assume power and get two full terms So if the 25th-ing of Trump happens, it’ll be then or after Tho I have no idea how he gets the Cabinet on board since few people up there like him

This is so laughably dumb (the Sullivans have standing here, not the DOJ) that you just know they’re going to flog this like the reflecting pool for weeks

Bloomberg News@bloomberg.com

The DOJ's suing to stop Alaska officials from certifying the results of next month’s Senate contest if the GOP candidate loses, claiming there’s a risk of “voter confusion” because two individuals with similar names are on the ballot

I don’t know what’s worse, that he’s thrown almost half a billion at races so he can buy his candidates, or that for someone worth $100k this would be the equivalent cost of ordering DoorDash

I worked for a large non-profit where 64% of every donation made its way to the people the org helped and always got an earful from donors about that If a charity were using 13 cents of every dollar on their stated mission we'd call it a scam

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Again I say, the scam economy is consuming the political will to fight authoritarianism.

Adam Bonica@adambonica.bsky.social

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Last time I was in the Ballard area I struggled to find parking because of all these illegal concrete blocks "We're keeping the RVs out!" well you're keeping me out too, no wonder your breweries are struggling so much

Erica C. Barnett@ericacbarnett.bsky.social

I would argue that Ballard has been far more blighted by thousands of ugly giant concrete blocks everywhere than it has by RVs.

Holy crap this is brutal. Dino Jr/Kyuss for sure Pavement/GBV and whichever of Dead Milkmen, Melvins, JAMC, or Sebadoh is cheapest Superchunk/Wedding Present I'm only disqualifying because it's the night after Dino Jr/Kyuss and my ears won't have recovered fast enough

THIS RIGHT HERE. Yes, I'm cishet mono, but even I know that unless you address the patriarchal structures that marriage is built on, there will never be true consent or anything representing the "egalitarian" view people on the Left supposedly espouse. You married a human being, not a waifu pillow

In the years before my mother died, I went low contact with her. If it wasn't the relentless conservative talking points, it was being mad at me from some slight I made decades earlier, or not giving enough attention, or I supposedly "hated" her.... But apparently I'm the bad guy now, NYT?

I disavow the Brotherhood of Steel. They are weird and kinda fascist.

Ben Collins@bencollins.bsky.social

I disavow everyone. Let's work backwards from there. Brotherhoods I avow will be released at a later date. Sisterhoods I avow include the Dixie Chicks, Pointer Sisters, and some Spice Girls.

Hey, y’all remember back on Twitter when Marc Andreessen was glazing Theranos and Elizabeth Holmes and as the scandal unfolded he doubled down and blocked anyone who asked about it until one day Theranos came crashing down and he deleted every one of his pro-Theranos tweets overnight?

Sure. When the Roman army needs over a tonne of cheese to make it through the day people nod sagely and say of course they needed those calories. But when I need over a tonne of cheese to make it through the day people beg me to stop and talk about my cholesterol and mental health.

on October 14, a black bear entered the Mammoth Lakes Library at 6 am. it was the 100th anniversary of the publication of Winnie-the-Pooh. the bear went directly to the employees' food supplies. i know what you're thinking. the answer is yes. he ate a pot of honey. this was a pilgrimage.

facebook.com385K views · 119 reactions | On the very day the world marks 100 years since A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh was first published, a black bear made its way inside the Mammoth Lakes Library branch of the Mono County Free Libraries before opening hours — and, in a tribute no one asked for, went straight for the honey. Director of Libraries, Josef Bopp, shared that the bear entered the library at approximately 6:10 a.m, well before public opening at 10:00am. Upon entering, the bear went straight for the staff snack supply, where it helped itself to peanut butter, a selection of peach cups, a pawful of cookies and — of course — one jar of honey. Satiated, the bear then took a full tour of the library, perusing the new releases and inspecting the reference desk before, evidently content with its visit, letting itself out and departing for the day. Remarkably, no damage was reported. No shelves were toppled and no books were harmed, though the honey jar has not been returned at time of publication. “While we love an enthusiastic patron, and we understand the excitement of the centennial,” said Bopp, “we do remind patrons- and perhaps more importantly our bears- that snacks are not part of the circulating collection.” Winnie-the-Pooh was first published on October 14, 1926, introducing readers to a “Bear of Very Little Brain” with a very large appetite for honey. One hundred years later, the timing of the curious bears visit seems more than a coincidence. The library invites the community (human members only) to celebrate the centennial by visiting any of the seven #library of the #monocounty Free Libraries for a copy of Winnie-the-Pooh, or related bear titles! *On A Serious Note* Pooh may be cuddly, but #mammothlakes bears are wild. Residents and visitors are reminded to: • Keep a safe distance and never approach or feed a bear • Use bear-resistant trash containers and keep car doors and windows closed • Report bear encounters to Mammoth Lakes Police 760-932-7549, option 7. Or 911 in an emergency. As Pooh himself might say, it’s best to think, think, think before getting t | Mono County Free LibrariesOn the very day the world marks 100 years since A.A.
