When I see someone hate on PowerShell it has, so far, always been because they misunderstand what it can do. That or they hate the syntax. Syntax style is kind of understandable if you prefer terse languages. But when you see the hate, just realize it comes from ignorance more than anything.

"Someone's already done a talk on that." Maybe. None of them did it in YOUR environment, with your constraints and the three things that broke at 2am. The topic isn't the value. The specifics are. CFP closes Aug 31: sessionize.com/pshsummit27 #PSHSummit #PowerShell

Six months to land PowerShell tab completion in shtab (Python, argparse). Final boss: `[\\/]` in a Python template collapses to `[\/]`. A character class with exactly one slash. The forward one. Windows paths silently stopped completing. Escaping is undefeated 🫠 github.com/tqdm/shtab/pull/212

I am truly grateful for @gilbertsanchez.com and his work and stewardship on the project to revive PSDepend. Last week I migrated 60+ internal repos to PSDepend 0.4.1 from a crusty fork. No issues, butter smooth. www.powershell.org/modules/psde... #PowerShell

🚨The MicrosoftExchangeOnline PowerShell module has been updated to 3.10.0 with breaking changes for some automated workflows! 👉 PowerShell 7.6 & Windows PowerShell 5.1 are the only supported versions! ⛔ PowerShell 7.2-7.3 will likely fail. ⚠️ PowerShell 7.4-7.5 𝘮𝘢𝘺 work.

I've been using the wsb CLI for the most part. For a project where I use sandbox a lot, I'll write a wsb file with my mapped folders, and I'll have a simple function to launch the sandbox and run my startup script from a mapped folder. "I am what the kids call spicy brained." That was my icebreaker at #PSHSummit. Three talks, psake v5, Plaster v2, and I bought a domain live on stage. But the thing that really stayed with me? Every person who stopped to say thanks for talking about ADHD. Full recap:

Just came back in my feed. My 2c: "Is it a bad time to give you some feedback?" allows the other side an out and let's them protect their autonomy. It's better to start from a true commitment vs a false one. A false "yes" means they're not gonna listen, they're just letting you talk at them.

Most people wait too long to give feedback. @jsnover.com shared a better system: ❤️ Start with the heart ❓ Ask permission ⚡ “When… then…” ➡️ Share the outcome Simple. Fast. Effective. 1/2

A manager "talking at" is a waste of everyone's time. IMO as a manager, if I've given advice I'm on the hook for the result. If I gave advice and you ignored it, then I can't cover for you. I highly recommend reading Never Split the Difference.

Spoke w/ Andrew at Summit talking about something I care about: how core modules survive. GitHub orgs, shared permissions, etc. Projects outliving people is the whole point. Also got to share my hot take: PowerShell will become the LLM preferred shell. See the late psake.dev for how we get there!

‘Hey’ came before ‘hi,’ and ‘hi' came before ‘hello.’ ‘Hi’ is most likely a variant of ‘hey.’ ‘Hello’ is not related to either. Goodbye.
