I'm not going to stan for the pope; the leader of a morally deficient cult. Just because he's throwing shade on an idiot vice president, he doesn't magically become cool. Let me know when they reverse position on human rights in respect of reproductive, gender, sexuality, contraception etc

Because the market price of oil isn't the result of a blockade, but who is doing the blockading... Too many stupid people in charge and too many stupid people voting for them.

I'm wondering how fans of The Invisible Hand of The Market currently feel about the US equity markets. There's always going to be some level of insider trading. But the confluence of political insiders and vibes-based trading is putting pension funds at risk.

Last week, Farage was demanding a ban on "mass religious observances" in public spaces and described Muslim prayers in Trafalgar Square as "provocative" and an attempt to "intimidate and dominate" UK society. This week, he's defending the "free speech" of a multimillionaire who celebrates Hitler.

Lebanon is one of the most surprising clean energy stories in the world. Solar went from <1% of electricity in 2020 to nearly 30% by 2024. Not because of policy - because the state grid collapsed and people installed rooftop solar out of sheer necessity.

What is unsaid: The poor were told to hate immigrants, LGBTQ, other poor people and educated experts. Because the elite knows that people would rather blame others than take responsibility themselves. Americans have always had the power to change their lives for the better, but failed.

Facts spoken by an ex-trumper...

Zod also prioritises loyalty (what's with all those demands for people to kneel?) But he'd be way more competent than the current muppet.

You have to feel sorry for James Dyson. Imagine buying up 33,000 acres of farmland to avoid tax, only for Labour to then close the loophole. We need more patriots like him, who drive up farmland prices and vote for Brexit then fuck off to Singapore.

The US screwing up a war on the Middle East, an AI bubble and massively over-priced tech sector. I'm going to do my part in calling BS and shorting the US stock market into the stone ages.

No wonder the markets are detached from reality. They're too busy looking for price signals from idiots like Trump and uncritically swallowing tech narratives.

If only the US had functioning regulators and wasn't in the pocket of tech grifters. So many crypto and tech bros would be in prison for fraud, stock price manipulation, etc Sadly the corruption goes right to the top, so nothing will be done about it. The bubble will pop and they'll scuttle away.

People pinning their hope to the Epstein files to expose and unseat #Trump. As if a DOJ controlled by him would release damaging evidence. One thing can turn the GOP against him: the economy. Tariffs, AI & crypto failure, dollar destruction & inflation. It won't just be anti-ICE on the streets.

Mississippi Burning. Great film based on a true story. Back when the feds were the good guys.

It's six years today since Britain left the EU. I wrote this on Brexit day in 2020, about the strategic dilemmas to which European membership had once been the answer and that would now reopen once Britain left. I'd stand by most of it today. gladstonediaries.blogspot.com/2020/01/brex...

The slop from generative AI is worthless garbage. Undressing and trolling is one of the few features that has demand. If X removes this feature, the deplorables will lose interest. This is one of the big problems with the current crop of Gen AI products: solutions in search of a problem.

I understand the pressures on the BBC, but Radio 4's coverage of the Minneapolis shooting is an example of "bad balance". It's all "the Trump regime says she was a terrorist, but Democrats say it was murder". The BBC has the footage. It doesn't have to treat truth and falsehood as equally valid.
