I was today years old when I learned that "dexter" and "sinister" are latin for right and left.

- Be me - Buy a cute retro gaming handheld (Anbernic 476H) - Load up all the best games of my youth (FF 1..n) - Play a lot. It's so fun. Play on the bus home from the work - Accidentally leave it on the bus today 😭 I can buy another but would need to start the games over from scratch. Gutted

Every time I see someone showing off their 3d printing setup and they just have rolls and rolls of filament sitting out there naked, on shelves, I console myself with the fact that while they may have sensible humidity levels, I probably enjoy better weather overall, bah humbug

The year is 2062¾. Humanity has learned how to travel in time. The inventors meet to discuss where it must be used. A heated discussion ensues, until one researcher stands up, slaps the table, and asserts "no. We have to prevent humans from learning to write. It's the only way to be sure."

The year is 2027½. Google renames chrome to Gemini Browser. But in this timeline, they allow an intrepid comms person to put out a statement consisting only of the words "we just felt like it idk"

Finally got around to mending the torn load lifter straps on my backpacking bag. One was torn and one fraying, so i cut them both off cleanly, cauterized with a lighter, made new straps and sewed them in with generous bartacking, then wrapped it up in tenacious tape. Proud of my handiwork tonight!

I am wondering if in the future it will be: - my agent and your agent sharing a task (agents end up being everyone's very personalized avatar in the creative space) - we are communicating within earshot of multiple agents who do work (they are not intrinsically linked to either of us)

There should be a zero-width joiner that allows me to flip any emoji directionally. Like I want 🤞 to have a horizontally mirrored variant so I can emoji "both fingers crossed" but have it look like a left and right hand instead of two right hands

Lettermatic ✕ GitHub Next: the inside story of Monaspace, a truly groundbreaking advancement for how we display code. We knew that Lettermatic would go deep, but we were still amazed by their level of knowledge and craft. See their case study below, and get the fonts at monaspace.githubnext.com

This week on Overcommitted, we talk with Idan Gazit, the head of research at GitHub next. His team created the original GitHub copilot. He shares with us what innovation work actually looks like from the inside.

I have crappy vision. I bump up the text size on my phone to make it easier for me to see. Half of my apps have weird text overflow bugs as a result. Thanks, I hate it

The Svelte 5 guide has everything from reactivity and how it works, when to use and avoid effects, events, bindings, components and composition, transitions and animations to using third party libraries and making external systems reactive. 🔥

Sensationalist news be like: "Octocat to be executed at dawn by firing squad" I've lived through integration apocalypses before at Heroku/Salesforce. This is not that. GitHub is still GitHub despite the gods playing musical chairs up there on Mt. Olympus.

I made a typeface, it's called Flexflex 🔠 I've been working on this project on-and-off for many months. Very happy to finally release it! Flexflex is a typeface that responds to spatial requirements rather than imposing them. Website: ronikaufman.github.io/flexflex

For the last 10 years I’ve been wanting a chance to design the future—not tomorrow, or the next thing, but 3 things after that. The 5 year horizon. To explore design fiction, maybe even a bit of science fiction? Tomorrow, I get to give it a shot with my first day @githubnext.com !

2024 was a year of endings for me. I stopped using tools like Twitter which have been central to my life and career. I stopped consuming sources of news that I've consumed for decades. These things ache sometimes like lost limbs. I think that maybe a lot of us are in this vibe, together but alone

The Verge is shitty journalism no matter how many readers it has. Some stuff is good, but their spicier takes verge on (badumtss) tabloid gossip and thinly veiled editorial agendas. Much like techbros pretend that their opinions are valid in fields they don't understand.
