Back in TGIF #289 (end of july 2020) I wrote: "A consistent theme for these mails over the last set of years has been about truth, and trust, and facts. If you have trust, work to keep it. If you have lost trust, work to restore it." fxshaw.com/tgif-289-what-is-truth/

Way back in 2016 in TGIF #89 I was reflecting on hubris in the tech industry. At the time, Jessica Lessin wrote: "It’s plain to everyone that there is a huge and widening gap between the tech titans of today and ordinary people." Not much has changed. fxshaw.com/tgif-89-high...

fxshaw.comTGIF #89: High Water & Hubris - Frank X. Shaw: Things I'm Thinking AboutIn an interview he did in Singapore, Satya made the following comment, which given the last two weeks in the industry is especially relevant: “… from ancient Greece to modern corporations there’s been...

As I slowly wrap up my time as chief communications officer at Microsoft, I'm reflecting on some of the things I've learned and experienced over the years, and publishing them on my personal website. Today, it was about mistakes. fxshaw.com/tgif-573-mak...

fxshaw.comTGIF #573: Making Mistakes - Frank X. Shaw: Things I'm Thinking AboutMy daddy used to tell me there was no lesson learned in the second kick of a mule, but I am starting to wonder about this. At the time, I internalized this as “don’t make the same mistake twice” which...

The hit was horrible enough, but his celebrating on the field then off the field, turned my stomach. #GoDucks

given the overall levels of stress right now, I sure could use an easy peasy Oregon beatdown of USC from the go, no stress, just fun #goducks

This is well worth the read -- what is power, who holds it, how does it get expressed, how does it evolve...or not.

RIP Annie Dillard, a great writer I've turned to often, both for coaching on how to write, and on how to best live in the world. "How we spend our days is, of course, how we spend our lives" she said; a reminder to be present and intentional. I will miss new words from her and cherish the old.

Never dull. :)

After fifteen years of studying the anti-vax movement, I came to the conclusion that upholding legal requirements for vaccines for school entry is the single most important thing we can do. You cannot use facts to convince someone who did not employ facts to make their decision. So use the law.

I made dinner for my abuser a bunch of times. You have to play nice while you're planning your escape so you don't get dead. Max Miller is a textbook abuser.

A good commissioner steps in now before every WNBA game becomes a rightwing performance space, like school board meetings were during peak CRT. You just have to throw the hammer down on this. Do not give them an inch.

Here is my controversial take after seeing "The Odyssey." It was fun! Great acting! Didn't feel long! (could have used with about four fewer trailers). Accidentally got seats in one of those immersive theaters that shake and blow wind, not sure about that part. :) Life is short, have fun.

i've just now been informed that it is Tuesday, i have managed to make it almost all through the day convinced it was Wednesday i dont' know how I adjust from this.

Listening to Dylan series of dreams: I was thinking of a series of dreams Where nothing comes up to the top Everything stays down where it's wounded And comes to a permanent stop Wasn't thinking of anything specific Like in a dream when someone wakes up and screams Nothing truly very scientific
