Turnover at a glance: Nunziata –> Padovani Perks –> Chan McNally Saxe –> Layton Moise –> Stikuts Fletcher –> Ehrhardt Bradford –> Erskine-Smith Myers –> Chen Other than the loss of Myers, this is going to be a pretty strong Council for Chow.

Chow looks like she’ll beat Bradford by something like 13 points. Bravo won my riding easily. Dianna Chan McNally and several other progressive new councillors to have been elected. Nicely done. My heart couldn’t take Bradford Bradford.

My @thestar.com column: Today we get to decide our most direct kind of government. Your vote will decide things like street sweeping frequency, the wait for dead raccoon pick-up, and whether a washroom door is locked when you need it So don’t miss your chance — vote www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...

thestar.comMatt Elliott: Your vote today will affect Toronto streets, parks — and yes, even washrooms. So don’t let it go down the drainDon't throw away your shot to participate in the democratic process for choosing the level of government with the most impact on your day-to-day life, writes Matt Elliott.

From Lula’s victory speech. Hard to argue. 🇧🇷 “We had to overcome foreign interference through digital platforms, which we will have to regulate. We cannot have monstrously large corporations earning millions and billions, paying no taxes to this country and trying to steer our election results.”

Still early in the book, but there is something depressing about the sameness of sectarian violence. Stories of mobs chasing people from their homes read the same whether the city is Belfast or Colombo or countless other places I am sure.

I’ve shared a lot of their coverage already, but if you haven’t checked it out you should do so. Really good reporting from the Local.

Tomorrow is election day. It's what all our coverage the past two months has been leading up to. We'll be reporting live on the night of, but first: to make sure you don't miss any of our coverage, here's a thread to catch you up on what may be our biggest issue yet: thelocal.to/vote-2026/

How has AI shaped local democracy this election? What we've seen at The Local, @royinori.bsky.social writes, is a lot of noise: fairly anonymous candidates with vague, AI-generated campaigns that make it harder for voters to tell the serious candidates from the others. thelocal.to/toronto-firs...

thelocal.toLessons From Covering Toronto's First AI Election | The LocalI’ve looked at nearly every candidate running for municipal election across three cities. A lot of their campaigns look the same. What does it mean for democracy?

Sugar Maple only got a majority in one ward. End the tyranny of first-past-the-post.

A clean sweep for Sugar Maple in Toronto’s first-ever Kids Vote Weekend. Kids in all 25 wards voted to make Sugar Maple the Tree of the Year for 2027. Here’s where the winning tree’s vote came from. More than 10K votes were cast. datawrapper.dwcdn.net/FGnw2/1/

The other gigantic security issue of the day was a warning there was a remote exploit in all versions of PHP. The have posted the details now. This feels like an atomic bomb sort of exploit. So much of the internet is Wordpress, Drupal, etc.

Well now you know it was a warning shot. Largest mounted unit I've seen, out on Bloor to enforce the destruction of safe street infrastructure. On the day unsafe street design for the seconds of convenience of drivers has put toddlers in an Oshawa hospital, no less.

The Local’s reporting has been amazing this election. It is still wild and depressing neither leading candidate for mayor has basically anything to say on the topic of police corruption. Olivia Chow’s campaign emails me at least once a day, but it’s apparently not an important topic.

thelocal.toThe Biggest Winner of This Election: The Toronto Police | The LocalDespite being rocked by one of the biggest scandals in its history, the city’s police force is getting nothing but support from major candidates in the municipal election.

One of the reasons I get so worked up about all this, apart from the clear-and-present danger, is it's a symptom of something bigger that's rotten. Many smart & serious establishment people still think it's silly to talk about though.

In Quebec City, an 11 year old boy was killed while he was on his bike earlier this year. A ceremony set for this weekend to install a ghost bike was cancelled because the boy's family has been inundated with hateful messages because ... speed bumps have been installed.

“I can’t get medication covered but the Ontario government can spend upwards of $45 million to do something that is dangerous and unnecessary… this is a waste of money and people will die.” Preach.
