I'm not a fan of AI, but I've been struggling to understand the criticisms of AI datacenters. And the extreme polarization of views makes it hard to find articles that don't feel heavily skewed. But it feels like most arguments against datacenters could be solved with better legislation?

Too much power use? Make datacenters pay a premium on electricity that goes to building more solar/nuclear power Too much water use? Apply regulations/fines on water use that makes evaporative cooling not viable Too much land use / heat generation? Regulate max size / output

And obviously some places are not fit/equipped for datacenter buildouts and it shouldn't happen there. but idk, "no datacenters anywhere" doesn't seem like a great end-goal. But again this is a very naive take and I wish I understood it better.

Space is so cool. I need to watch more videos explaining how it works. Like what is the difference between the low orbit comms and the deep space comms?

Trying to migrate the Desert Bus blog from Ghost to an in-house solution. Requires converting a bunch of legacy HTML (including old Wordpress posts) to JSON block format. Gonna be staring at images like this for days...

I think the blog team is going to be happy with the result. (and if they aren't it's pretty easy to tweak now)

Booked my travel for Desert Bus a whole 7 months in advance. Japan has changed me.

If you're a streamer or someone who makes widgets/overlays for streams, then Eric and I have just released a cool website that we hope will help you out! ekg.gg A full SDK and devkit for making widgets, a marketplace to buy & sell (or get for free) widgets, and a real-time scene editor.

Multiplayer Factorio remains my favorite game ever

Soaryn@soaryn.tv

We did it! It took us 30 hours (Because I made the silliest vessel ever to fly slooooooowly) and we got it! Less than 40 hours completing @factorio.com space age!

You can watch up to 5 Twitch streams. More than that and you'll be considered a viewbot. This was implemented back in ~2018, so idk why Twitch is bringing it up in relation to the recent viewership changes.

never forget: PayPal is not a bank and you should not, under absolutely any circumstances, leave money in your account that you don't intend on spending, whether you partake of completely legal sales and purchases often under scrutiny or not.

21 hours until Reactive v5 maintenance begins. Will probably stream the process for funsies. Let people see all the issues and answer questions as I lose my mind.

The journey of converting all Reactive images to AVIF is nearly complete. Couple weeks ago I figured out the FFMPEG command. Last week I downloaded all 4.5M existing images, converted them, then re-uploaded Today I flip the switch to have people use them and see if there are issues

Before the swap, the images took up 2.5TB and individual images could be over 300MB. After conversion it's 150GB total and under 10MB for even the craziest images. Part of that is AVIF is just crazy good at animation. Part of it is I'm finally using lossy compression.

Trying to balance my desire to play Hundred Line with my fear that if I stop coding it'll be very hard to start again

I feel like every Software Engineer I know is using AI now and talking about how much more productive they are and how it's just an evolution of using Google and StackOverflow... and now I'm forced to wonder if I am the crazy one for absolutely refusing to use it

I promised myself I wouldn't play 10 hours of Hundred Line any more, that I would be productive and get work done and socialize and eat normally but I can't stop thinking about it...

Been streaming Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy and am 32 hours in and haven't seen a single ending I'm terrified of how much of my life this will consume but at least Soy is happy I'm using my vtuber model

@barrycarlyon.co.uk do you know if anybody's written up good guides on handling Conduit shard handover during blue/green deploys? Especially curious if you can call "update shards" and assign shard IDs that don't yet exist, THEN call "update conduit" to scale up to use those new IDs

how do the days keep passing so quickly? can't tell if it's a side effect of not having a permanent place to live yet or something else

TIL Japan does not have Daylight Savings Time, so that's a fun little plus of moving that I didn't even consider

My wireless mouse (G502) has been acting up for the past couple weeks and sometimes would lag, stutter or drop connection to the powerplay receiver. Extremely annoying to use the PC like that. Bought a brand new mouse and powerplay pad. Plugged it in. Everything seemed to work...

Then it happened again. I felt like I was losing my mind. Firmware all updated. Power settings set to performance. No amount of Googling helped. What could possibly be happening?? Just figured out - I put down my phone on the mousepad and it was too close to the receiver. You've got be kidding me..

ok time to try streaming again. This time some Factorio: Space Age. I've put 100 hours into this playthrough and it's time to figure out how to get to Aquilo. twitch.tv/fugi

IDK you're selling to gamers, maybe you can make a game out of it? Launch the 5090 at some absurd price like $4000. Every 12 hours they go without an order, lower the price by $100 until it hits MSRP ($2000). Every time they sell out, increase the price by $100.

This post is unavailable.

People who want it now no matter what get it at a premium price, people who are willing to wait get it later at a normal price. Community gets to have fun speculating on what will happen. Or, y'know, pre-orders. But that's too normal.

RIP the dream of getting a 5090. Not really sure what the point is of underproducing hardware that people want to buy but hope it's worth it.

Started watching the new season of anime and "Fruitmaster" is infuriating garbage. Set in a world where people get skills from special fruit, but eating 2+ lethally poisons you, the protagonist gets the skill "Fruitmaster". It lets him grow fruit and be immune to poisons from fruit.

Naturally he (accidentally) eats another fruit and gets another skill and then can do cliche protag things like party up with his hot skilled childhood friend... BUT WHY DOESN'T HE EAT MORE SKILL FRUIT??? why does he stop at 2 skills??? You could have 1000 skills! Why are you settling for 2?!?

Everyone in Tokyo seems to have a bike so now I'm doing a lot of research into bikes vs e bikes, small tires vs large tires, foldable vs not...
