After a long peer-review process, I'm so excited to share a pre-proofed version of our paper titled "Social Support among LGBTQ, Cisgender, and Heterosexual Undergraduate Students: An Egocentric Social Network Study," accepted for publication in the American Psychologist. osf.io/preprints/ps...

Over the next several months, we will phase out some popular OSF features. These changes do not affect current public content, which remains safe and accessible. We have prepared support material to help users adapt. I am very sorry for the disruption to your work. Please read this post for details.

We need to change norms around sexual harassment Yesterday Tessa West spoke up about a sexual harassment complaint she filed against John Jost. Not only is he a senior colleague in the dept of psychology, but he is one of the most prominant figures in the field of social and political psychology.

Excited to share a paper recently accepted at Nature Mental Health! 😄 For decades, we've assumed that covariance among psychopathology informs comorbidity. What if we’ve been wrong?

PsyArXivBot@psyarxivbot.bsky.social

Covariation among higher-order psychopathology dimensions is driven by nomorbidity, not comorbidity: https://osf.io/3t2cm

Finally, a spine! What a miracle. It only took recognizing that you will be thrown aside to wake up.

! Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.) just flipped his vote and helped Dems advance a bill to end Trump's war in Iran -- 3 days after Trump helped defeat Cassidy in his Republican primary. This was the EIGHTH time Dems have tried to force action on this. It finally worked. www.huffpost.com/entry/live-u...

Are we still posting our raw datasets now that they're being farmed for genAI-written papers? I'm starting to feel differently now sharing data before I'm totally done with my own research questions...

What did we find? Religious coping actually INCREASED suicide risk from loneliness for most LGBTQ+ adults. Views that same-sex sexuality is immoral appear to be one key driver. 2/3

But not for everyone. Religious coping was protective for LGBTQ+ adults of Color and non-religious adults — two groups who may engage with the Sacred more freely, outside of stigmatizing religious structures. The bottom line: "Lean on your faith" is not one-size-fits-all advice for LGBTQ+ adults.

The Supreme Court’s ruling that “conversion therapy” cannot be banned does not change the fact that the literature overwhelmingly shows that sexual orientation and gender identity change efforts cause serious, lasting harm to individuals exposed to such efforts.

We already know that lagged effects in CLPMs are likely to be upwardly biased, but just how easy is it to find significant effects? Way too easy. I tested CLPMS in 100 randomly selected pairs of correlated variables and found significant effects in 98 of them. New preprint: osf.io/preprints/ps...

STATS PEOPLE: Specifically, people who use Mplus for LPA/LCAs, do you have any references to why we do NOT need to use any family-wise error control for BCH distal outcome pairwise tests between class/profile solutions??

In this new open-access paper, we demonstrate that the strongest supporters (i.e., "adherents") of Christian Nationalism are the most likely to inflate their connection to God. Moreover, adherents reported the highest spiritual grandiosity (e.g., "my prayers to God are more effective than others").

This is notable since Adherents reported the highest levels of various spirituality measures, which in this context would indicate a pattern of self-presentation that emphasizes exaggeration and self-promotion. We discuss these and more in our paper.

PBS News is not going anywhere. We will continue our work without fear or favor, as we have for nearly five decades on the air. We are profoundly grateful to Viewers Like You for your loyalty and unwavering support.

🚨 New Paper Alert! 🚨 How does living surrounded by more conservative religious communities impact LGBQ+ mental health? A small thread (1/3) of our new open-access paper!

Although numerous studies demonstrate religion's connection to LGBTQ+ health disparities through internalized and interpersonal stigma (Lefevor et al., 2024; Kim et al., 2025), little work has examined religion as a structural environmental factor. (2/3)

We found that environmental factors—especially religious conservatism and density of places of worship—were more strongly linked to psychological distress among sexual minorities, highlighting how structural stigma in one's environment may contribute to mental health disparities. (3/3)

Yes please! Esp. LGBTQ+ journals, I don’t know of any that accept them

Prof. Madeleine Pownall@maddipow.bsky.social

I love Registered Reports because it's no fun wrestling with reviewers about design decisions that we can do nothing about after data collection. But still, SO few journals in my research area accept them. So I just fired off a load of this email. Here if you want to do the same: osf.io/n6bx9

The judge intends to limit his order to universities in the plaintiff states (CA, MD, WA, AZ, CO, DE, HI, MA, MN, NV, NJ, NM, NY, OR, RI, WI), members of the plaintiff orgs (APHA, UAW), and the researchers named directly, he said today. His written opinion will come in the coming days.

🚨HUGE SCIENCE WIN ALERT🚨 NIH Grants to be restored en masse!!! Thank you Judge Young for standing up for science! #StandUpforScience #SummerFightforScience

BREAKING: A federal judge in Massachusetts (the Reagan-appointed William Young) has declared the Trump administration's cuts to NIH grants — ostensibly over Trump's EOs on gender ideology and DEI — are "illegal" and "void." He's ordering many grants restored.

Very smart, high ROI initiative from the Spencer Foundation. Providing bridge funding for canceled NSF grants: 1) directs funds to projects already screened by a top-noch review process. 2) avoids imposing proposal prep costs on researchers. 3) ameliorates the disruption from GOP sabotage.
