The “losing control” narrative creates the loss of control. Nobody is losing control of an emerging intelligence. They’re redirecting their own agency to it, as a way of diffusing responsibility, but the self-perpetuated intelligence myth has them convinced they have no choice.

Forgot about this video, but it just came across my feed. Amazing song, and also now I need a dark/gritty HP spinoff about Snape's secret life as an illicit drug manufacturer/addict.
Ugh it's a myth, the retelling is the point. The added layers of text and meaning are what make it interesting. Before long, these man babies are going to be going on "historically accurate" bike rides by putting their training wheels back on.
JUST IN: Elon Musk says Grok will make a "full-length movie" of The Odyssey that is "historically accurate" by the end of this year.

Is this like when I was in high school and they wanted to make sure Saddam Hussein couldn't get his hands on a PlayStation 2 ?
Had this phrase rattling around in my head vaguely recalled from a documentary I saw decades ago. Glad(?) I didn't imagine it.

The defining challenge of the coming decades is not inventing powerful technologies. It is (re)building societies capable of absorbing them without losing what makes human life worth living.
Frontier technologies—not just AI but also biotech, robotics, synthetic biology, neurotech, energy systems etc—are reshaping the foundations of society. The challenge is how to build social, economic & political systems capable of integrating these technologies in ways that expand human flourishing.

Shadows of the Empire is arguably one of the most important Star Wars projects of all time. If there was any prediction of where Star Wars would be going in the future as a re-unified movie-TV-gaming-publishing force, it could be found here.
This Star Wars day, I am specifically celebrating the 30th anniversary of my beloved (but currently non-canonical) SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE multimedia project, whose novel, junior novelization, comic, soundtrack(!), video game, & toy line were released over 1996. Bring back Dash Rendar you cowards.
