Ok so the thing is Ultraseven has some fun episodes but it also has. So Many. Bad or boring episodes. And these aren't equally distributed in both number and timing. Those first 20-something episodes were a painful slog to get through

#74. Ultraseven Recapturing the feeling of watching a show on TV as a kid not because you're fond of it but because it's the only halfway passable thing on there at the moment

Think I got most things outta my system for the night. So, do I like. Hate Ultraseven? I don't think so. But I also ranted and got angry about it instead of coldly dismissing it, so it ain't indifference. I think i'd best put it as me feeling impassionately negative about it

And I'd be more understanding if this was their first rodeo with a long episodic show BUT ULTRA Q AND ULTRAMAN ARE RIGHT THERE. THOSE WERE PRETTY CONSISTENTLY FUN! COME ON! Uhh other things... The characters are also really bland for that entire first half. If you arent Dan or Anne ur gettin scraps

Also every episode has those fuckass dogfights where nothing happens and it feels like they all go on for too long, as do the associated scenes like the launches. This does NOT just apply to the boring eps either, this is just a constant. Maybe thats why oldtakus like this show or something

As for those episodes: Oh my god why are so many of them the same fucking plot with like 10% variation. There's evil aliens. They kidnap and impersonate someone or just have a normal spy. They do this bc they wanna conquer earth for some reason. This goes on for 20 minutes, then Seven blows them up

The idea of a show that relies more on Seijin over Kaijus is interesting on paper, which makes it all the more infuriating how hard it is wasted on most of the show. So many reused plots. So much meandering on or around said reused plots. Speaking of Kaiju what the hell do the Capsule Bozos do man

This has a follow-up problem in that this is an episodic long-running show and after you spend over 20 episodes, half the damn runtime, not caring about it or the characters, any subsequent bumps in quality lose their impact HARD. The risk of it goin right back to a slog does not help

We, internationally, need to do exactly what the Brazilians did and lead by example with: 1) Block all far right figures/accounts 2) Never share a far right account even to dunk on them 3) Never reply to a far right account even to dunk on them Completely cut their algorithmic advantage

Another thing that ticks me off aside from writing off others as expendable or inefficient is that The Director's job is to Direct people and if your Directions are unclear and stuff needs to be redone over and over or you don't wanna go along with the path you Directed towards, what are you doing

I appreciate the bar is quite low but this excerpt from an interview with Molyneux about AI is almost too on the nose. Nice anecdote about a colleague he used to respect and enjoy working with, followed by an explanation of how him and everyone like him is now expendable.

uchikoshi pretty literally said this too in that inteview recently and idk yall. if you view your coworkers as obstacles instead of collaborators maybe you're just a bad leader

basically it was about how there was a time where he was very controlling as a director and it was both unpleasant and unhelpful, and when he had more faith in his chosen staff to work in their area of expertise, both the process and the results greatly improved

looking at the Molyneux and Uchikoshi quotes about AI and thinking "I know there's a Tomino quote about this but I'm not sure how to begin finding it again"

Faith as a stat in FF Tactics increases magic damage the higher it is but if you finish a map with a certain amount your unit will just find God randomly and forever leave your party to because a nun or some shit
