Friends in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, I'm taking a sabbatical from Sept. 2027 — June 2028, and my hope is to spend 2-6 weeks each in a good number of your cities. I would love your help with this.

henry.codesIt doesn’t matter if it worksUltimately, whether LLMs "work" as a technology or not doesn't matter. The widespread adoption and deployment should be regarded firstly as a threat to the labor force.

My hottest AI take is that the executive class is petrified of labor and saw that whatever else LLMs are/aren't, they're fine labor-smashers + that a ton of ordinary people find the artificial hyper-complexity and scamminess of modern life and work so unbearable that they'll throw a god-box at it.

Perfect front page from The Press today. Luxon laughing, main headline 'Pay Equity Bids Thwarted' and then an ad telling us to Party Vote Green 💚

it's been 4 years and this still hasn't become a thing yet (lots of regional ones though!). just gently nudging it back out to the universe.

Seriously, what the actual fuck. The bedleg basher is OK, the party president being a sexual predator and that fact being hidden from voters is OK, but talking to some people who can vote is not OK. Fuck this country sucks.

I get this manufactured media political outrage over politicians of the left meeting gangs, 'they're meeting bad people who will endanger your safety' blah. Casey Costello's ACT & National Govt have given $300m tax breaks to an industry that kills 13 kiwis a day. Who is the greater danger?

Here's a story from the NZ care sector (1 of ??) An elderly couple with a disabled 45yo daughter (mental age of 3yo) were advised that their daughter was going to be discharged from her residential care home (where she's lived for years), back into their care. They are in their 70s!!

Props to the ad agency: they nailed the "white person who plagiarises and steals credit using LLMs" look with 100% accuracy

I didn't pick it up when I read Wyrd Sisters, but Pratchett had clearly read Issa's famous haiku This Dewdrop World, which has been my favourite haiku since I was first introduced to it by my amazing 6th form Japanese teacher, Mr Peirson. thedewdrop.org/2021/03/24/i...

HALF of our brilliant colleagues, who (if they can get any work at all) can only get 6months, 2 year, 3 year contracts this is no way to develop the economic base of New Zealand or our long term development Researchers in precarious jobs can’t get mortgages, raise families, put down roots

Douglas reposted

So why are profs of law, science & politics & on strike today? We’re here for colleagues. HALF of NZ university staff are now on temporary contracts! 54% Research has become like the hunger games as some of our brightest minds compete for temp work - they can’t live like this #INVESTinResearch

Sixty years, tomorrow. They gave the man in charge a knighthood. They made the local community pay for the remembrance garden. No-one held to account. I always think of the dinner lady, Nansi, who shielded five kids with her body and died in the process but they all lived. #Aberfan

THIS. I've no romantic regard for gangs - the damage done to members of my extended family are too real for that. But I also know people who committed suicide after the... attentions of the likes of Tim Jago. I know what association I consider irredeemably beyond the pale. #nzpol

kyle@kyledchurch.bsky.social

leftwing politician's associations are happily weaponised by NZ msm in a coordinated manner to influence an election but if you're David Seymour the president of the ACT Party gets his name suppressed on the BASIS of it being election season, then msm ignore the association completely!

Douglas reposted

Hey hey. If any of you see any election-related scams or fakes can I ask you to send me the links/details: Paul.brislen@tcf.org.nz Keen to get it in the hands of the right people to take action. Any platform, any medium.
