If you enjoy fun VR experiences a friend of mine has just released a fun way to play all the light gun classics, from arcade to home releases. With online co-op too! For those who want to blast through Time Crisis 2 with a friend store.steampowered.com/app/4711510/...
Having reread all the Discworld series this past year; in comparison to, well, whatever this is, Pratchett did a sterling job of interweave. Any novel could be someone's first Discworld read, characters are expertly introduced in a way that's fun for the knowledgeable but accessible to the newcomer.
Ready for your Avengers Doomsday homework? Marvel has released a watchlist of 15 movies and TV shows you should watch before December 18 rolls around. https://bit.ly/3UmhwmS
Building lightshow drones for my day job has slightly ruined the mystique of drone shows (I look at them and instantly spot the ones having an RTK wobble or other issue). But it's also made me realise how much invisible work goes on just to have some fun silly lights sprinkle the air for 10 mins.
‘Masters of the Universe’ drone show spotted over Los Angeles 💥 • Had 1600 drones • Guinness World Record for brightest drone show ever (via Amazon MGM)
Brendy has been a consistently funny and poignant voice in video game spaces for over a decade. It's exciting to see them involved in starting their own website (with other esteemed alumni) to really flex all that makes games writing great. If you can, go support a cool thing at the ground level!
We're launching a website. Jank is an independent PC games website funded by readers. jank.cool If you like funny, thoughtful games journalism and can't stand adverts, deals posts, affiliate links, and other nonsense - Jank is for you.
Concept artistry has a real ebb and flow that helps nail down the feel of a game, it should be one of the earliest ports of call for fresh creativity in a project. For 15 years my laptop's homescreen has been a piece of Bioshock concept art, it's sad that future games will generate nothing similar.
NEW: I spoke to Larian boss Swen Vincke about their ambitions for their new RPG Divinity, cutting down development time, pressures from Baldur's Gate 3, why BG3 wouldn't have happened without Tencent, how Larian uses generative AI, and much more www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...
The recent choice between on Steam spending £70 on Doom the Dark Ages, or spending £15 for a month of games pass with it, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and several other hot new single player titles you'd have to hate your money to do otherwise as a consumer. Difficult for developers to profit.
For the Xbox platform division, hitting 30% profit margins has required a drastic rethink. For individual games, it's not a completely unrealistic target... except they're all released day-one on Xbox Game Pass, cannibalizing sales. Much more in the story www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Seeing the major LLM breezily suggest pitching an article it just translated to magazines like EDGE & Retro Gamer (without being prompted to do so!) is just one step closer to dead internet theory. I truly feel for all editors' inboxes facing this hustle www.timeextension.com/features/cha...
