making things is healthy because when you come up with something good you pace around the room a lot & it adds to your step count a lot so its good for health.

sometimes i am just talking to myself with these posts. like this isnt like a universal thing. but i found out Porter Robinson does it and that was very amusing to me

been very rewarding to write new things as thematically complementary to older material. the stories i've put out tend to resolve pretty tightly, i dont mind that. but the story i'm writing now sure as fuck can't! it's fun!!

watching a friend's cat for the weekend, so maybe look forward to some fanart of vns ive played and didnt do art for before

this new project is the hardest i've leaned on hypnagogia, which also is producing some of the prose i'm most happy with. patting my brain on the head like Good job making associations 👍

i have the specialest superpower which makes it so that in every train airport airplane and public space a family with a crying baby will need a place to sit down, sense me and go "yes, next to that one, that's the one."

archetypes are a good tool for grounding stories. like knights or ghosts or anime girl tsunderes or whatever. they give the reader something they can hold onto. things get interesting when you make them realize the hand they're holding is attached to some other kind of eldritch beast

"yeah so my new story is about 🪽🚌❓🌚🥹🗡️😂😟💿😳🗡️🗡️🗡️😊🫂🧹💀💶" "oh ok" "yeah so my new story is about toxic maid yuri" "Ohhhh sick as fuckkkkk."

people sometimes take "write what you know" to mean "this author has experienced everything they write about" but in practice it often feels like "what if i was worse in more interesting, distressingly extrapolable ways"

The past month has been such a blur that I keep forgetting I made a visual novel. But you should read it and learn all about what a great idea it is to dedicate your life to the Boston Harbor.

"BOHA: Body, Obsession | Harbor, Affliction," my entry for the Mixed Media Queer VN Jam, is out! ~4.5k words of historical fiction about Boston Harbor. A biography of an environmental champion, told and obscured by the National Park Service. #mixedmediavnjam jcodyssey.itch.io/boha-body-ob...

i think choices in vns are a psychological tool and you can often tell when one is made that way vs there because "that's what a vn has to do to justify existing". ideally that choice shouldn't ever be pulling the reader out of a headspace, unless going bird's eye is the point

sometimes the presence of choice can be parody and adherence to a specific tradition, too. but even then i ask: why is it here in this story? what is this choice telling me about the form, and why does the form matter to this story? is it maybe even good that it feels superficial and arbitrary?

there are some things i'm making/have made where i remove ending choices and i'm like oh thank god, this story is so much better for being inevitable. other things where i add endings and it seems to fit because there is enough ambiguity to change everything if a single neuron fires differently

every day my wife (who i love) will show me the most abysmal brain eating slop videos that i have ever seen because she wants me to partake in the torture she has experienced watching them, and with love i am forced to try to find meaning in them, a futile obsession in avoiding the Lacanian Real

i need a grant so i can do creative things full time but not because itd make me do more because i already do plenty and expectations are scary. i need more time to watch kara no kyoukai. i love you shiki ryougi

i try to be evil, meany, despicable etc in my writing but sometimes the i love my wife energy is just going to show up. I cant stop this from happening.

when i was 3 i had a vaccine shot and when it was done i asked the nurse if i could have another one

QUESTION OF THE DAY: This sounds like a joke question, but it isn’t. If it doesn’t apply to you, fine. But it’s a serious question with different levels of meaning. And I am genuinely curious. When did you first realize you were weird?

tremendously beautiful and really really moving. the music and writing combined are so effective and brought me nearly to tears reading this. the format is so good and brings such a unique way of storytelling to the medium, there is so much i can say but ill have to yap more in the itch review. wow!

a story is basically like a big thunderdome where ideas fight and die and also a lot of them are kissing, and some of them are also kissing while killing each other

every time i work on a wip theres a 50/50 chance ill forget what i was making and put in some touhou ass key changes because zun is the modern beethoven

one day i'll finish the story i came up with while my apartment was infested with bedbugs, and then i'll know that this too was a gift (post-hoc, but everything is)

shoutout to whoever drew the tiny faded doodle on the side of the bus, which i thought was invader zim cosplaying chrollo lucilfer, until i realized he doesn't look like that. i still like that your doodle made me think about that. art is so cool
