VICTORY: A federal court just put the chainsaws down at East Potomac Park The plan was to turn a public park into a private tournament course for Trump & wealthy golfers. The trees stay while we fight it out in court @democracydefendersfund.org & partners are on the case 👇- TN

Election Nerd Moment: I happened to be dropping off my ballot when two gentlemen from King County Elections were emptying the ballot drop box. I’ve never gotten to see the process before. They were very nice and answered questions about the process —

I watched as they secured the boxes of ballots with both a lock and zip tie tag with location information. They explained the boxes will also be weighed (so they can estimate the approx. # of ballots received). Every box. Every day. And some boxes are collected twice per day. Very cool

Whoever called should be arrested and prosecuted for harassment, child endangerment, and malicious wasting of police resources. (“I can’t say” who called — bs!) Also: caller needs a perma-ban from ANY league events. Their kid can play. But they have to find alternate transportation.

They called the cops on this 3-year-old Black boy because he was kickin the white kids' ass on the soccer field.

I’ve suddenly realized why a trend I’m seeing is happening and why it’s so fucking unhelpful. But — PLEASE — bear with me. Cause explaining it will piss people off. We have lost the distinction between “punching left” and “punching leftists” and “punching down” (Note: phrasing is rhetorical)

Trans people have not “gone too far” by existing. They exist. They are human beings with fundamental human rights and dignity that must be respected and protected. All decent people (and Ds in particular) need to unlearn whatever old biases/ convenient excuses prevent them from accepting that.

Outside of personal bigotry (and, seriously: fuck those people), I think a lot of Ds —pols, consultants and voters — default to seeing “The Issue of trans people” not “trans people” If it’s “The Issue of Trans People” they can more easily decide it falls under “Punch Left”/ “Punch Leftists” = fair

But it’s not. It’s trans people. A marginalized group being actively targeted — politically and physically. Which makes attacking them “Punching Down” Which makes you a bully and a bigot.

Which brings me to today: trans people. Most of us understand that “punching down” is bad. You don’t mock/ demean/ abuse/ attack those with less power than you. That makes you a bully. When your target has less power due to their race/religion/gender/sexuality/ etc, it also makes you a bigot.

The vibe was more “perfect theory” > lived reality. Think: yelling at the volunteers at a soup kitchen because it’s not vegetarian/non-gmo/ organic soup. Yes, it became a caricature. But it, too, was A Thing.

The contempt Bernie supporters felt from institutional Dems? It was real. And this was one of its historical roots. (Yes: there were other reasons, fair and unfair, for animosity from both camps, but that’s several other convos and not the point of this 🧵.)

The irony is that broadly the left is very good at building community structures outside traditional power structures to Get Shit Done. It was baby leftists (young, privileged white folk just discovering their politics) swooping in to shit on what other people were doing…

without any willingness to work for the change they wanted to see — as, ultimately, they were comparatively safe from the consequences of the failure to achieve their aims — that started this attitude.

“Punching Leftists” was a separate thing. It had more to do with contempt for the comparatively well-off white suburban/college leftist that would denounce people actively trying to address a problem for not being ideologically pure/perfect enough then immediately flounce.

Way, way back in the 1990s, when “liberal” was a dirty word (that meant “too far left” — I swear!) that Democrats ran from, one of the easiest ways to show you were a Serious Person to the media powers-that-be was to “punch left.” That is, to decry a specific action of a group that “went too far”

So: a pol could say “no one should be committing arson to protest a project” and they were now a Serious Person. (Not trying to begin a debate about the efficacy of that strategy or its overbroad use, just that it was An Understood Thing…

HOLY SHIT. In a sworn statement yesterday, an ICE agent told a federal judge that an ICE flight to Equatorial Guinea had been cancelled and so couldn't be used to bring Ahmed Soliman back to the United States. The plane just landed in Equatorial Guinea. prospect.org/2026/10/23/t...

- harsh civil and criminal penalties for the government officials who lied to their attorneys so that they would perpetuate a fraud on the court AND - Brady warnings for the officials/departments/ agencies engaged in this behavior

And — yes — if that creates a world where ICE/ DHS literally cannot testify in any court to anything, I’m okay with that. The rot runs deep. It must be cut out. And “well that would be wildly inconvenient” just isn’t a good enough reason not to. But, again, I’m just an internet rando.

I would very much like to see a world where lying to a federal judge resulted in: - significant sanctions (including disbarment/ jail time) for attorneys AND/OR - immediately nullifying attorney-client privilege so that the attorney may provide evidence of who specifically said what, when AND

Awkward: Gun Death Rates (Per 100,000 People) • United States: Approximately 14.00 per 100,000 residents (with over 48,000 total annual gun deaths). About 63% of U.S. gun deaths are suicides. • Somalia: Approximately 6.98 per 100,000 residents (with roughly 1,282 total annual gun deaths

Today in “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly”: “I need a passport photo. In front of a white wall. In natural light.” Which meant moving furniture, dusting, removing art, and cleaning the wall. (Now: kneel so the picture hangers don’t show.)

It also meant confronting how old and dingy our paint is looking. Which will mean repainting. A lot. And I DON’T WANNA. But I also can’t unsee it. So now my brain itches. Because of a photo.

Hi @repdelbene.bsky.social. WA-01 voter here 👋 You decided you wanted to be the first DCCC Chair to pay for a bigoted anti-trans ad? That’s a choice. A fucking hateful one. You CHOSE to embrace bigotry and we see you. And your spinelessness. I will not forgive. Or forget.

What the Attorney General of the United States seems to not understand, but the people who matter do, is that Congress hasn’t given DOJ any authority to block states from certifying the election. This isn’t a thing. And we don’t have to pretend it’s a thing just because he says it’s a thing.

🚨🚨🚨 Q: Is there any scenario in which DOJ would try to block states from certifying the election? AG TODD BLANCHE: Yes, of course. It is not DOJ's intention to improperly interfere with elections or the state certification process, but ...

I’m sure “death by cold feet” is just another one of those perimenopause symptoms we’re supposed to ignore. But just because I can’t explain the precise mechanism of how I am currently dying to death from feet that WILL NOT WARM doesnt make it any less real. Avenge me. 🥶

It's a choice (a bad one) to tell readers this driver "passed too close to cyclists" when there's video evidence showing he drove his car into them, made contact and hurt someone. Fellow journalists: we can explore the nuances of punishment for drivers without obfuscating their dangerous behavior.

In the interest of not running afoul of any TOS, let me say: I wish for you what you wish for trans people. May we all be blessed accordingly.

Can’t Allow Elon Musk the Power to Intervene in Wars No individual should be able to disrupt military ops like Musk did with Ukraine’s. I wrote that when he did it in 2023. Was told the problem was contract rules. Nope. Happened again. The problem is too much power, esp for an enemy of democracy.
