My first book is coming out. I am excited to share it! I have also been asked for ways to support. Here’s some ways! 1) Paying attention and asking how you can support is *already* incredibly supportive! Thank you! 2) Share my posts and tell people about my book!

Note for safety: this shitty guy is screenshotting comments under his shitty review and finding bsky posts to fill his shitty substack with harassment targets. Be cautious out there. This is the playbook. Crocodile tears and then he sicks his shitty gullible horde. Everyone he harms is another buck.

Shittiest Guy at World Fantasy replied to me. I saw something about “why are you swearing” in my notifications and I blocked his piece of shit account without reading the rest. I don’t waste my time with insignificant pieces of shit. They don’t deserve me reading their unflushed toilet thoughts.

Surprising no one, the Shittiest Guy at World Fantasy has taken the backlash to his shitty review to make an argument that the community is intolerant. This was always the grift. He was always going to cosplay persecution for clicks and legitimacy. Block. Ignore. Create good work. Fin.

If you ever say anything nice about my book and I seem cool and normal, know that inside I am sobbing with joy, baking you cookies, and howling like a wolf wearing disco rollerskates all at the same time.

I am taking a Rest Day which means the angst and overwhelm has caught up and is squatting on my chest like a night terror stealing my breath. I will confront this and it is healthy etc. but this is why I work all the time. 😂

If you are able, please support and/or boost! Apex is a cornerstone of the SFFH short fiction scene. They do tremendous work and they need our help now.

We're in the final 4 days of the Apex Magazine 2021 Kickstarter and we're $4,393 away from our initial funding goal. The time is now! Let's hit our goal and fund Apex for 2027! www.kickstarter.com/projects/ape...

While the weekend at WFC was so energizing and amazing, I also found myself reacquainted with one of my oldest fears while talking to folks about my debut novel: Everyone Knows I am Doing it Wrong (and They Are Laughing About It). Not sure where this particular bugbear came from but it’s a jerk.

There are so many reasons it’s a bad idea to give shitty people another chance at a mainstream platform but close to the top is that there are SO MANY not shitty people that deserve it far more. Second chances for terrible people should never come before first chances for new and diverse voices.

This ballot makes me smile. Thomas Ha rules. Kathleen Jennings rules. Renan Bernardo rules. Eden Royce's Psychopomp & Circumstance is one of the first books I ever blurbed--it's brilliant. Wendy Wagner's run on Nightmare Magazine is one of my favorite editorial runs ever.

Southwest Airlines is out here putting my intrusive self editorial mantra on the back of all of their seats

World Fantasy was such a lively, diverse, welcoming, and big hearted event. What possible justification is there to publish this one shitty guy’s half ass myopic review? He went to ONE panel, ONE reading, and the dealers room. HUNDREDS of people would have been better options. FFS

I am really, really tired and filling my drafts up with angry and vulgar responses to the Worst Guy at World Fantasy writing a weirdly biased and poorly written review of it and the lazy editorial choice to publish it. We’ll see if I can manage coherence beyond FUCK *gesturing broadly* ALL OF THIS.

One point: no shade to Silverberg but it sure is a game of mediocre dude with a particular agenda twister to write a review of WFC and not mention the Guests of Honor, Ted Chiang and Stephen Graham Jones. That’s like writing a movie review that ignores the stars. No one would publish that.

We at the Skiffy and Fanty show do not platform people like Jon Del Arroz. Just sayin' We do reviews, interviews and more on our blog We do liveshows every Friday. We do discussions for our Patreons We are Skiffy and Fanty. And we have no truck with misogynists or racists. skiffyandfanty.com

skiffyandfanty.comThe Skiffy and Fanty ShowThe Hugo-Finalist Skiffy and Fanty Show is a podcast, blog and booktube show covering science fiction and fantasy books, movies, authors, and more.

My plan for an ad hoc Erik funded book tour in 2027 is if there’s a city with a cool bookstore that I think I can get a local writer to join me in conversation and we can get 20+ people to show up, I will strongly consider going there. Except Connecticut. I have to draw the line somewhere.

I am on my way home. World Fantasy was an incredible time full of the best weirdos. I hope to see all of you weirdos again soon. But not too soon. Let’s all catch up on some sleep and our wordcounts first.

Once more I forgot to take a single photo. 😂 I really need to get better at that or get more friends that take photos I can steal from them afterwards.

A little prep for my World Fantasy reading this afternoon. Time permitting, I will share some small bits from THE LONG RED TOMORROW and a scene from my nearly-finished-no-really-Joshua first draft of a fantasy war novel called THE FAR MARCHES. 3:30PM!

Road tripping from Portland to Oakland for World Fantasy with a friend today. For every like this post gets I will “accidentally” sneak the song Resurrection by Erection from German power metal band Powerwolf onto the driving playlist until my friend leaves me at a gas station. 🤘

Comments while trigger the cover version of Resurrection by Erection by Finnish power metal band Battle Beast.

Things that excite me right now: 1) stories featuring disability/chronically ill characters who succeed *because of* their strength/accommodations 2) contemp. romance with fantasy elements 3) "cozy" stories with high personal/local stakes 4) Adventure forward fantasy 5) hobby/niche romances

The line of stuff annoying the shit out of me is so long this morning and my coffee is nearly gone. I am gonna need some of these deeply irritating things to reschedule for next week please.

Noticing that a convention this weekend is using an app for scheduling that pulls job history info from LinkedIn (???) and folks, I don’t want you to talk to me about my day jobs in Financial Data Analysis. I am a science fiction writer. I am escaping that shit. My resume is pew pew laser fingers.

There are a lot of opinions about what makes you a real writer, so let me tell you the truth: You become a real writer when you notice a typo and it's too late to do anything about it.

Something I am thinking about is how reading speed impacts the experience of a book comapared to how the (typically) universal speed of watching movies impacts that experience. If you can read 100 pages in a half hour, a 1000 book creates a different footprint than if it takes you 4 times as long.
