Interesting development to an interesting story. It would be very on-brand for 2026 if this ends up being just another tawdry grift.

G Elliott Morris@gelliottmorris.com

We were investigating Wedgewood for faking their data and emailed them for comment this morning, ahead of publishing the findings tomorrow. They are now trying to cover up their fraud with the "we were doing a social experiment" excuse. Full story here: blog.fiftyplusone.news/p/fiftypluso...

Huh. Trying to keep everyone on their toes I see.

Over public dissents from Justices Thomas and Alito, #SCOTUS *denies* the Trump administration’s request for emergency relief in the transgender federal prisoner medical care case—leaving in place lower court rulings requiring the continuing provision of care for gender dysphoria.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

theguardian.comMichigan heckler the son of Republican adviser paid for ‘influencer marketing’ against El-SayedTimmy Teepell’s firm paid $250,000 by America Next, which has been trying to gin up ‘organic’ opposition to El-Sayed

The type of person who can think El-Sayed came out of that exchange looking bad is unreachable, unsavable, and should frankly be unemployable as an analyst because their brain is too broken by partisanship & bigotry to do the work

This is a really striking tweet.

Freud might have something to say about these comics. Regardless, Charlie Brown and Lucy are waaaaaaay more marketable than “Elmer Hagemeyer and Hamhock.” “Hagemeyer Babies” if you will.

more crowdpleaser material "Hagemeyer" by Charles M. Schulz; a workplace humor strip that the syndicates never bought, drawn sometime between 1954 and 1956 on the art paper he had lying around the studio that came with the Peanuts logo. as far as i know these weren't publicly known about until 2020

I'm in-house with a hospital system. One of my responsibilities is pediatric consent issues. If we had a patient present to the ED talking like this, they'd probably get a psych consult. Goes without saying this has never happened, anywhere in the country. I don't know how to understand this.

Trump: "They want to cut your children. It's unbelievable what they do. Your son leaves as Jimmy and comes home in three days as Janet, and they don't even ask you. They can take your child out of school and do whatever the hell they want. Minnesota is one of those states."

Dear tech overlords: Please do not enshittify DocuSign. It’s actually simple, useful, ane user friendly. We know how that goes. Please just don’t make it evil for like…another 6 months? Can we agree on that?

I am way too online for my own good, and I had an unreasonably large twitter following, and I really *enjoyed* twitter for a lot of years, and yet leaving there and never looking back was maybe the easiest what-felt-like-a-big-ethical decision I've ever made.

At last we have created the Wire Mother from the groundbreaking research study “Don’t Create The Wire Mother”

Jess Calarco@jessicacalarco.com

It's telling that men would rather try to invent tech to replace humans' role in caregiving than step up as equal partners in parenting. Telling, that is, in that it shows how financial capitalism and patriarchy work together to dissuade men from doing "unprofitable" labor, like the work of care.

North by Northwest is an incredible film, and I was mildly shocked to learn that there were still surviving cast members.

SAG-AFTRA@sagaftra.org

We celebrate Eva Marie Saint, who died today at 102. A #SagAftraMember since 1947, Saint won an Oscar for her film debut in 'On the Waterfront' and starred in 'North by Northwest.' An advocate for organized labor, she leaves an enduring example for generations of union members.

I read to my son. And now that he’s at college, I hear about applying for the school’s Model Federal Reserve team. That’s a thing. I just don’t think that sort of thing is a healthy activity for a young man, either. What does Gen Z have against just stumbling to class hungover like normal people?

Normal Liquid@frozenpbr.bsky.social

A lot of the problems with young people are an abdication of responsibility from parents. Literacy rates are plummeting, alongside that, the rate at which parents read to their kids at night has plummeted. I'm sure there's at least the bones of a relationship there. Here's an iPad and go over there.

Not only that, but if he were to actually skip it, that would immediately be used to attack him as well. This is bullshit all the way down and nobody should be giving it the time of day

This is somehow still going, and it’s not just a few random families now; it’s also a former mayor of NYC and governor of New York. There is, again, no way to reason to argue Mamdani shouldn’t attend this commemoration that isn’t fundamentally bigoted

I thought this photo turned out well, for something snapped on a phone camera by a cretin. I call it “Summer evening during power outage.”

I have heard of 3 of these names, and never watched/heard any of them. One, I could probably vaguely describe what she does - Ms. Rachel makes content for kids? And tho I've heard of Druski and Piker, I don't know what they actually do. I am officially out of touch.

dame@dame.is

it’s that time of year again, Rolling Stone released their list of the top 25 content creators, which is actually a test of how old and out of touch you are… the lower your score, the more out of touch i’ve heard of 11 out of 25

I had dinner with a trial judge and he was thinking that we would need to start providing court appointed attorneys for civil plaintiffs because folks are walking into court pro se, counseled only by artificial intelligence and yes it’s the nightmare you imagine

The closest I’ve got to using AI has been the summaries that show up at the top of Google search results, but if I decided to cross over, this is the type of pitch that will do it. Maybe some day. But I’m a holdout dinosaur in the meantime.

ghost malone ergo propter bones@proptermalone.bsky.social

i am reasonably confident that i could figure out a way any person on Bluesky could use a $20 OpenAI or Claude subscription to improve some aspect of their life in fifteen minutes of talking through it, if they're willing to try in good faith

The below is about the slippery slope to trans sports bans but I think the structure applies here too. The answer to any legit concern about lab leaks is a thorough but productive audit of safety and security protocols leading to their improvement but that's dull, you can't outrage-farm that.

Dmitry Grozoubinski@explaintrade.com

Every one of these debates is the exact same thing: "Can you theoretically imagine someone abusing this for nefarious goals?" "Yes." "Is it happening?" "No or negligibly." "Are there safeguards in place?" "Yes." "Should we very cruelly over-react in ways that hurt people anyway?" "Yes!"

I'm from a sleepy rural town, population just under 20k. My wife is on the Twp board & 2 months ago a developer showed up at a twp mtg to talk about maybe building a tiny data ctr here. The next meeting, FIVE THOUSAND people showed up to object. That's 1/4 of the entire town. We know better.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hassett: "Data centers are very good for towns bc they create so many jobs & bring people in with high incomes that can buy houses & stuff like that. So if you take a sleepy town that hasn't seen much in the last 30 years & put a data center there, there are gonna be a bunch of happy residents."

I’m mad about today. I’m mad that justices can’t do the bare minimum to uphold the Constitution. I’m mad that the law and our history, which I have dedicated so much of my life to, is an inconvenience than an inheritance to many. I’m mad that the academy, which I love, rewards and enables it.

Eric NMI reposted

American legal academia, with its lack of academic rigor, tolerance for hacks and charlatans, and widespread autoflatulence addiction issues, deserves much of the credit for the four votes Trump got in favor of destroying the constitutional and common law right to birthright citizenship.

Hey John Roberts, will you still be telling us the Court isn’t political, after 4 justices decided that one of the simplest, least ambiguous amendments to the Constitution doesn’t say exactly what it says in plain English?

I doubt there are even 20 lawyers practicing in the country, who were ever instructed that there’s some dispute or confusion about the meaning of birthright citizenship. The argument that 4 justices just endorsed is a partisan fiction, created out of wishful thinking and not any text of our law.

I do -not- have a PhD in cyanobacteria growth so I hope I'm not sharing fiction. But this is what social media should be for. Access to information and ideas from people who know more about stuff than we do. Then one day it's our turn, and hopefully we don't share fiction either.

Since I did do my PhD in cyanobacteria growth and treatment optimization modeling AND work in the water treatment industry, I’m gonna share my theory as to what’s happening here and how to fix it. People are focusing on the painted bottom of the pool increasing residual heat, and while that 1/19

Every day I am grateful for having found a position at a nonprofit hospital system. I wish we could extend the peace of mind I get to enjoy, to all Americans.

People on my timeline have a lot to say about this, so I’m getting in on the action even though I don’t have the slightest idea what this is or what it means.
