[All of This] ends if and only if a small handful of Republicans in Congress decide to end it. That is all it will take. But it will take that. There is no end run around it. Remember that when you are deciding who to yell at online today.

The more I see JD Vance, the more I find it amazing that he ever won a primary or a general election on his own. Riding coattails as a vice president, sure. Lots of folks have done that. But how did he survive an entire campaign season and remain likable enough to vote for?

Warnock: "I worry that Democrats are missing a real opportunity to invest in a serious & sustained way in the South. If we would just lean in and stay in through the election & after the election, the kind of victory you saw us achieve here in Georgia, it is achievable in a place like Mississippi."

This is a good point. I expect most people on Bluesky are engaged enough to know this. But if you are an obvious vote in favor of your side, then you are on a list of people to bug to go vote. The sooner you do that, the sooner you get off the list and the more time the party can spend on others.

ClockworkCanary@clockworkcanary.bsky.social

It lets the GOTV folks focus on a smaller number. Which, y’know if people have some time, people could help? (Side note, if you don’t want to get bugged by the gotv folks, vote early)

Great thread.

I'm going to say one more thing about this. A meta-thing, if you will. I think legal commentators with elite legal backgrounds (all of them, not just Steve) need to reckon with the fact that they have a personal interest in maintaining the panache of their credentials.

If they were serious (they are not, but let's pretend), then they would eschew non-binding platitudes and instead propose legislation that prohibits & requires *specific actions* and enforces those restrictions through public enforcement and authorized private lawsuits.

I said this in a thread last night and in a thousand threads before it, but you really are doing the work of those who would destroy democracy and the rule of law when you are a doomer. You can be aware of — and vigorously oppose — the lawlessness of this administration without insisting on doom.

Trump: "The Republican Party, we believe that Somalia bandits, third-world gangs, and jihadist sympathizers do not belong in Ohio, they do not belong in America. We got to get them the hell out of here." More "De-port! De-port!" chants from the crowd.

3 out of 10 Americans say that they approve of Trump Not approve of the GOP Not approve of conservatism generally Not consider Trump a better alternative than the Democrats Actively approve of him personally

I get that she's running in South Carolina. But I am still disappointed in Dr. Andrews for responding to an attack calling her Trannie Annie by basically agreeing that transgender people shouldn't have rights.

Polling can obviously be wrong. But in 2026, people are still making arguments like "polls underestimate the GOP b/c rural voters are hard to reach" or "polls underestimate Dems b/c young people don't have landlines." Do you really think that pollsters aren't aware of these challenges?

The First Monday of October is a good time to remember the importance of state courts & constitutions. For most Americans, state courts—not SCOTUS (or other fed. courts—are where they will experience justice firsthand. If you’re interested in learning more, please follow @statecourts.bsky.social.

Trump clearly came up with dumocrats, and someone in his circle innocently pointed out that dumb has a silent b at the end. And the psychic narcissistic injury he suffered as a result of being told something that he didn’t know has clearly eaten at his soul for months.

THIS is what Executive Orders *should* be used for. The President instructing Executive Branch officers on what language to use for things. They were never supposed to be a substitute for legislation or formal rulemaking.

Justin Hendrix@justinhendrix.bsky.social

United States President Donald Trump issues executive order instructing federal government agencies to "use the terms 'Super Intelligence' and 'SI' in place of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' and will not acknowledge the usage of 'Artificial Intelligence' and 'AI' in any applicable setting."

Great points by Stephen here. Read his thread. (1) Danger of groupthink. You need someone reviewing your strategy who disagrees with the team. They will find flaws others miss. (2) Danger of overexcitement. You want the smoking gun to be true so badly that you subconsciously forego due diligence.

This sounds like a rhetorical question but I actually am curious. Isn’t this something Congress needs to do one way or the other?

Trump's new student loans rule sets new standards for federal student loan eligibility: namely, by denying loans to students pursuing degrees that lead to careers that “don’t make enough money,” with programs for art, music and social work being “hit the hardest.” www.rawstory.com/trump-educat...

The comments made me want to throw something. "Why aren't you doing SOMETHING about it?" The whole Dems are in the minority thing seems to be a mystery to the average Bluesky commenter.

Rep. Mike Levin@levin.house.gov

Just in case it wasn’t clear, when they say the U.S. Government’s paying for this, that’s YOUR taxpayer dollars they’re using. I’ll say this as many times as I need to: it is ILLEGAL to use American taxpayer dollars from the government to pay for candidates’ or parties’ political ads.

[Grumpy Old Man Rant] Let's assume that the NFL refs are not out to get any one team. (It may be that they are, but if that is the case, then we have bigger problems than simply bad calls. And we'd never agree on who they were out to get anyway) 1/5

And, as it demands more of us as fans, it ends up making us feel like complete suckers for putting so much time and energy into the game only to have it run by a bunch of guys who still can't agree on what holding is. 4/5

Make the officials full time employees. Make them accountable publicly for their non-calls and their calls. Use technology to your advantage. Care more about fixing the problems and less about covering them up. [/Rant] 5/5

We need to demand better officiating. Even if no one is "out to get" anyone and even if all the bad calls "even out over time," we should still demand better. Why settle for two wrongs making a right when we can just eliminate the wrongs? 2/5

In the old days, you'd turn the TV on Sunday morning, watch your game, and tune in again next week. Now, the NFL encourages us to spend Monday through Saturday reading about DVOA, and scouring our fantasy waiver wire, and deciding whether to take that three-team teaser. 3/5

It really is that easy. When you believe in the moral and obviously correct thing as a democrat, just say it. Don’t pretend to believe the bad thing instead.

My most radical but entirely correct political/legal opinion is we should pass a constitutional amendment saying that every Supreme Court decision (and the Circuit decisions that rely on them) in which Justice Alito was in the majority & he was not joined by Justice Souter or Sotomayor is voided

It would’ve been cool if for the Dolphins Raiders game they’d leaned into their 70s glory days. Both teams could’ve worn throwback uniforms. The coaches could have worn leisure suits. All of the graphics could’ve been retro 70s. It would’ve been cool.

I like this idea for lots of reasons. First, Rcons are already afraid that we will do this. Second, it will really annoy tRUmp if he isn't the center of attention. And the targets of the investigation probably will not obey Congressional subpoenas, which will further highlight their lawlessness.
