Why does Korea have a holiday for the alphabet? Because unlike other writing systems that evolved over centuries, Hangul was the work of one dude who solved mass illiteracy by sitting down and creating a brand new fully-formed system from scratch that anyone can learn almost instantly.

Happy Hangul Day! It's a Korean holiday honoring the best and easiest alphabet in the world! Everyone in Korea gets the day off work to contemplate it, but it only takes fifteen minutes to learn! So today, learn to read Korean in 15 minutes!

This week, PlayStation announced that it had pulled out of publishing Hideo Kojima's next game, Physint. But the company didn't give a reason. So I made some calls. Here's why PlayStation bailed and why Xbox snapped Kojima right up: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Sony tried to avoid this question as much as possible. They only replied because they can’t avoid an investor’s question.

"We’re going to cautiously move this forward" - Sony says it hears the PlayStation disc backlash but will continue its plans. CFO Lin Tao said its focus was on trying to "engage the gamers" in "the future digital ecosystem". www.videogameschronicle.com/news/were-go...

If you can't even play the mobile Kingdom Hearts anymore, which are critical to understanding the lore (and possibly you will be dumbfounded if you play KH4 without them) What are we even doing here, man?

If you're curious what a non-preservationist gaming ecosystem looks like, you can look at the mobile stores, where most of the shit you remember does not exist in any form anymore.

I think this is a key insight about the AI psychosis we are seeing exhibited by big tech CEOs. The further you are away from the work, the more you assume it’s trivial for Claude or ChatGPT to replace the worker.

No tiene para pagar con tarjeta, solo efectivo. Por algún motivo misterioso es mejor crear una app para pagar con el teléfono. Lo sorprendente es que no usa QR y se puede pagar con Apple Pay

I was outside the conbini and crossed eyes with a middle-aged lady that was smoking in the corner. I said to her hello in Japanese, expecting to end the conversation just there. Instead, she pointed at my cycling jacket and asked if that was Hatsune Miku. She is certainly a woman of culture!

Day 11: Chilling in Osaka until the evening to take the Orange Ferry for the Shimanami Kaido. I stopped by the Nikon Service Center. I bought a new mirrorless camera in Morioka to replace my good ol' DSLR (sadly, I couldn't get it earlier to take photos of the Sakura with it, damn you Amazon JP).

Then in the evening, I went on a 12 km bike ride to the port to get on the Orange Ferry, repeating what I did last year. This time I used Google Maps instead of Apple Maps. The route was busier, but it was more straightforward with fewer trucks. To get on a bridge, I had to do a 5-story loop.

I got it at a good price at Bic Camera, but there was a catch when I tried to use it: the camera firmware just had Japanese. Prevent grey market, I guess. Luckily, they can add it, but you have to pay 35 USD. Still not a bad deal. And of course, they had gacha. I got a mini D850 and a 24-70mm f2.8.

I feel whenever I go to a countryside conbini they treat me extremely well, and I feel embarrassed myself for such good attention. Today I went to a Family Mart, and both attendants attended to me at the counter. One of them asked the usual question if I needed a bag, and I said I am good.

It seems they thought I was buying too many things, so one of them still grabbed a small bag and put them inside (without charging me the usual 2-cent charge). I wanted to tell them I was really okay, it was a short trip to my bike anyways, but the things were already inside.

After paying, both gave me the usual “arigatou gosamaishita” but with a deep bow. I don’t know if it’s because they rarely see a foreigner in the middle of Kyushu or because I’m riding a bike. Or maybe both. But really, I don’t expect that treatment. 😭
