A nice real-world look at the sleep–mood relationship: across 1,712 nights with home EEG, Pierson-Bartel et al. found later sleep onset predicted lower positive affect the next day. Sleep timing may matter for mood independently of how well we sleep. buff.ly/iryU8Qc

This is the most fucked up and immediately harmful policy decision I think I've ever seen in adult trans healthcare in the UK, and that's saying something. The Welsh Gender Service is one of the best in the country. It is widely praised by the patients it helps. That is why it is being targeted.

Replying to @dangaristo.bsky.social

Finally, this has gone a bit under the radar, so I want to highlight it: The social, behavioral and economic sciences directorate (SBE) has simply ceased to deliver grants to many of its subareas. Any topic not specifically OK'd by the Trump administration is receiving zero new awards.

Scoop: For nearly a year, NSF has struggled to make new grants. Now we know that it will not catch up. In fact, NSF will award just 6,100 new grants—a 30% y/o/y decline, itself down from a previous avg. of 11,000+. In fact, the last time NSF awarded so few grants was in the early '80s.

Excited to have Taylor's work with me and Daphna Shohamy out in Open Mind now: even at the end of an event, it's not too late to prioritize it for long-term memory!

Sometimes we know an experience is important in the moment. Other times, its importance only becomes clear after the fact. Do these two cases have different consequences for memory? In our new paper we found that both kinds of prioritization impact memory in different ways! doi.org/10.1162/OPMI...

In yet another preprint, Tiange (Summer) Lu collaborated with @alexatompary.bsky.social to examine whether sleep promotes generalization in a large online cohort (N=137). Not only did she not find a benefit of sleep, but some evidence also suggested that wakefulness promotes generalization. 3/12
