We need the council to make rules about interruptions to cycle lanes. The CYCLISTS DISMOUNT signs - half blown down - placed *just* before the works up and down Leith Walk aren't particularly useful. How about ramps onto the road on either side?
📣 @jackrmcaldwell.bsky.social informed us that: 🚧 Next week, the west end of Dalmeny Street (and the Leith Walk cycle lane) will be closed to traffic for a number of weeks until (as of writing) November 14th. 💧 This is to allow Scottish Water to repair the sewer underneath the street.

This. Just ask the lad who hired EdFoC’s e-cargo bike, got an EST loan for one after falling in love with it, and wound up running this account 😂
Our experience of hiring out our cargo bike over the last 11 years, is that when people have the opportunity to try a cargo bike, they like it and want to buy one, sadly ScotGov does not seem interested in trying to lower the barriers to cargo bike ownership, this is a massive-missed opportunity.

Does that mean everyone has to put on hi-viz to walk to and from where their car is parked? Barking mad idea, instead having the courage to deal with the actual problem 🙄
Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing. "I think you should do everything you can to ensure you're visible," he said. www.thejournal.ie/driving-phon...

Closure of Water of Leith path at Currie. Another bridge repair, so expect another long-term closure for active travel. #EdTravCyc @edi.bike
Amazed to read about a completely autonomous crash (via @edinburghminute.com) in which seemingly no humans were involved… @policescotland.bsky.social any chance your standards of reporting collisions could reintroduce some human interaction? Pretty sure there was a driver and a rider, at a minimum.
Adopt the Road collision reporting guidelines (by the excellent @lauralaker.bsky.social). We - and the victims of this collision - deserve better than ‘two inanimate objects had a stooshie’ in your public writing. https://road-collision-reporting-guidelines.uk/introduction/

🙌🏼 We’re hearing that the Councillor has rather jumped the gun on this ‘removal’; which is likely to be a relocation within the area, has no date set, and would be opened before this location is closed. Great opportunity for a pretend accomplishment though. 🥉
Cllr Munro crowing on Facebook about managing to have the — on-carriageway! — Voi parking spot on Midmar Drive removed and the scheme boundary reduced accordingly. www.facebook.com/share/1CTxpJ... OH WELL DONE, VERY GOOD. Are Ward councillors not supposed to represent all, including scheme users?

Good to see The Spurtle publishing a correction from @cyclingscotland.bsky.social regarding the EBUG Chair's 'Choose Your Own Misadventure'-style unalysis of recently published cycling stats at Leith Walk. We encourage vigilance, whether wielding factoids or pithy descriptions of e-motorbikes. 👍🏼

👀 Shame nobody involved in this correspondence has done more than skim-read the Cycling Scotland article and then conflate the numbers and times being reported. There’s no ‘gotchas’ with automated counters; just read slower https://cycling.scot/news/scotland-s-bike-lane-networks-break-new-records

Important thread about why we're invested in community on Bluesky and not elsewhere.
It would be politically good to talk more about why bluesky (and mastodon) are inherently better than X, Meta properties, and so on. It's not just that the latter are run by bad people. On federated platforms, you can switch platform owner without losing contact with your friends.

At one point on one of the pics below there are 14 lanes of road. 14. Yes… 14. And still it’s gridlocked. When your politicians argue that one more lane will fix the traffic. They are lying. And they need to not be leading us. Because we need leadership that takes space away from cars and drivers.
Travelled to a work event. I traveled by e-bike. The views were glorious. The air fresh. The trail was very bumpy, but you know, take the rough with the smooth. I could have gone by car. 🤣🤣🤣 There is no way I could have done that journey by car in the same time.
