NEW: public school choice may have a place in the policy toolbox, but what happens when choice just reshuffles familiar barriers to quality and access? I sit down with Princeton’s @jenjennings.bsky.social whose new book The Scarcity Loop explains it all. substack.com/note/m-303bd...

Many comments on the great election victories in Brazil and Serbia state that the authorian right is in decline or that voters have rejected far-right authoritarianism. That is a wrong interpretation of what happened. Progressive movements mobilized and beat the authoritarian right. That's different

This. And if most Americans weren't aware of this in 2019, I'd guess they're even less so now. Public university students were paying for a third of the cost of their education in 2009, and it was up to half by 2019. 2009 wasn't great compared to the 60s-70s, either. www.pbs.org/newshour/edu...

When worlds collide: the private school in this *Iowa GOP candidate's complicated relationship w/ the Kochs* story was started because traditional public schools are too directed, too focused on memorization instead of a *hero's journey* that lets kids direct their own learning

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

My deep dive on the "A.I.-driven" Alpha School, revealing their internal learning and enrollment data for the first time, just as the network expands into public education. There is a big gap between the marketing and reality. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/23/u...

Are these 6 reports conveniently available in one place? I am trying not to spend all my time reading about Alpha School but at some point, I will probably want to look in depth.

I was telling my 15 year old that by the time he is 25 or 30, people will be old school. Ppl will stop using electronic devices because it will be too dangerous.

Replace "Boeing 737s" with "empty warehouses" and you've got the same play that DHS under Noem pulled. And a source on background told us in February the sales were meant to help well-connected Trump affiliates offload industrial properties that were liabilities on their books.

Tantalizing new clue here from @markalfred.bsky.social on the failed “deportation fleet.” I first reported in February that DHS contractor (a former Noem donor) overpaid for the planes, starting last December. gillianbrockell.com/noems-luxury...

For people who want to keep yelling at me because I'm not immediately repulsed by the idea of providing scripts to teachers, this is (pretty close to) what I was handed as a baby teacher. These sections were called "scripts" and no students were harmed in the making of math knowledge.

If Dems take presidency in 2028, boy are they gonna have to hire a ton of really good lawyers to clean up all the trump messes and conduct investigations.
