Take a break from the madness and marvel at my dog sleeping. This is her mid-afternoon position. Just looking at her makes me want to take an Advil.

Today is a particularly good day to support trans mutual aid as a concrete way to fight back against the fuckers trying to take their healthcare and other rights away. 🧵 of a few groups, campaigns, and individuals you can donate to:

There were a couple hundred people at the rally I was at. Lots of drivers honked and celebrated as they passed, but we saw some middle fingers and a couple of Trump flags too. It was a peaceful, safe, joyful, and soggy protest.

Went to an academic awards ceremony this morning. It was so nice to watch middle schoolers lose their shit in the most wholesome way to celebrate their classmates.

I’ll take the small wins where I can: just had a surprisingly smooth call with lifetouch after we didn’t get the photos we ordered. The guy was apologetic and fixed the problem right away. Hopefully the photos actually arrive as promised. If only all customer service calls could go that way.

I will never get tired of watch this.

eight years ago today we all watched the glory of zendaya falling madly in love with tom holland and the internet was never the same

I love finding older Christie books. This was at Capitol Books in DC. The shop seemed like it hadn’t changed in the 20+ years since I was last there. Did I buy Mysterious Mr. Quin purely for the cover? Of course.

Every time Booker yields for a question (while retaining the floor) I get real nervous that he won’t say it right. If I was (a) awake and (b) having to speak for as long as he has I would have screwed it up hours ago.

You're going to be tempted to engage in discourse focused on what Mahmoud Khalil said--was it actually antisemitic? Did he endorse Hamas?--and I cannot encourage you enough not to do that. It just doesn't matter what he said because you should not be detained and deported over what you say, period.

The small part of a hilarious thread that has me laughing so hard I’m crying.

“there’s another dj setting up in the middle of the street” [incredibly tired] “we got a new dj”

Everything is still awful, but take 10 or so minutes to listen to a story of a woman who did things her own way and lived a great life.

Finding joy anywhere I can right now. Tonight it’s trying a new nail polish from Essie called ethereal escape. After 2 coats it’s a bit more sheer than I was expecting. But the bright side may be that it’ll be harder to notice when I inevitably chip it.

I’m pretty impressed with the people who are renewing passports. I mailed the paperwork on November 12, and my new passport arrived yesterday. I would have been happy if it had arrived by the end of the year.

I walk my dog past this tree often, but it was only last week that I actually looked up and noticed the tree trunk and branches. I don’t think I’ve seen anything like it before.

It seems I am really bad at brainstorming themed appetizers.

Our niece texted @tlpc78.bsky.social this morning to tell him she dreamed that he brought Burt Reynolds-themed appetizers to Thanksgiving, so yes, of course. I appreciate her subconscious giving us a couple of weeks to brainstorm. I already vetoed anything involving Deliverance.

Everything is still awful, but here is a small win: my kids made homemade stuffed crust pizza tonight. For a first run, they were pleased with the results. The dough did not always stay wrapped around the cheese, so some parts of the crust became more like cheese-filled caves.

We have 19-20 mph winds with gusts up to 34 mph. It seems like the wind hasn’t stopped at all this afternoon. A few minutes ago I drove past someone using their leaf blower in the street. I don’t even know what to say about that.

It got some attention, but didn’t generate a ton of *reflection*. So we should change that. Last week Barack Obama asked what ought to be the Joseph Welch question for our generation. And it’s wild how long it took someone of prominence to put it this way. www.offmessage.net/p/obama-when...

offmessage.net"When Did That Become Okay?"Barack Obama asks THE central question of the Trump era—one we should have been asking all along.

I usually leave any spiders in our house alone and they get out of my sight on their own. But I just noticed that a giant spider chilling in our kitchen window this weekend disappeared. This is NOT REASSURING. Also, will this account only chronicle my encounters with bugs and spiders? Maybe.

Successfully trapped and released a bee who was hanging out on our bedroom window blinds. That was my good deed for the day; if you need me I’ll be on the couch (I wish).

First day of school today! I think my kids are among the last ones in the US to start school. Everyone else seems to have started weeks ago.

If the pearl-clutching about white people not being able to handle spices doesn’t stop soon I’ll start posting screenshots from the cookbooks that my Grandmother’s rural midwestern community put together. If I have to have flashbacks to those recipes then I will not suffer alone.

Walz's joke about midwestern white guy tacos has triggered the very pale and pallid snowflakes, who are all aflutter.

You are up to date.
