I've been using my Anbernic RG477V to play Chrono Trigger, which is a really goofy piece of hardware in some ways but which I kind of love. Basically it's a really powerful vertical handheld that's also really big. Technically still pocketable, but only in the academic sense.

I guess technically there's no reason you'd use this over a more comfortable horizontal form factor (the RG477M is exactly the same except horizontal), but there's something immensely satisfying about playing games on a gigantic gameboy

Many of you look forward to winter because of the beautiful snow, the holidays, and the cozy feeling of relaxing at home. I, however, am looking forward to winter because I can get texture photos of the local scrap yard covered in snow.

Judge: "Marlow the Endseam, you stand accused of pants euthanasia. The sentence is death!" Marlow: "I'm innocent I tells ya!" Judge: "Tell it to the judge!" Marlow: "All right... I'm innocent I tells ya!" Judge: "Objection restrained!" *Marlow is hung from the clothes line until dead*

Throughout the bank, there are security kiosks where constables (or even yourself) can trigger the alarms, turning your simple one on one encounter with a lowly officer into a messy ordeal against a whole squad.

Pinhead: "Is it not true that you only have time to play this game when your children are sleeping?" Me: "yes" Pinhead: "And is not true that your children often come into your office multiple times when they should be sleeping?" Me: "yes" Pinhead: "Behold! Unpausable first person spanking!"

Pinhead: "And does it not trouble your soul to know that the protagonist is voiced by Xalavier Nelson, yet you don't recognize his voice at all?" Me: "Yeah that's really bothering me" Pinhead: "Then succumb to further discomfort as he makes masturbation noises!"

This turned out to be a great idea and I'm sad I didn't do this years ago. Ended up further reducing down to Chrono Trigger, Zelda, and Hellraiser (since it's Halloween. I'll get back to the other two later) and once I'm done with Chrono Trigger I might go down to one main game and one pocket game

So I've tried to simplify down the number of games I'm playing, and I have it down to 4. Control and Divinity Original Sin 2 on PC Chrono Trigger on my at home handheld Link's Awakening on my Miyoo Mini That's still a lot of games but it's easier to focus on

The frater of the monastery has been converted into a field hospital for the Constabulary. The strain on manpower has meant that quick and dirty amputations are the usual treatment.

If you're serious about game development or design, PLAY OLD GAMES I can't overstate how many good ideas are sitting there waiting to be discovered. Sometimes it's not even stuff that was there at the time, it's only there now looking from a modern perspective.

There is so much even in the simplest OG games that has been lost to time and shifts in culture

You don't even have to have or want any nostalgic attachment to them or the era they were made in. If anything, not having that makes it more likely you'll find something interesting and new. Looking to the past can also sometimes be looking toward the future.

Hellraiser Revival is a game where after about two hours of shockingly explicit torture gore and sadism, you have to find a bdsm rubber duck to open a door.

The problem I'm having with B.U.G.B.I.T.E lore is that half of it is musings about God and the nature of evil and the other half is "this gun was created to shoot life lasers but they accidentally reversed the batteries so it shoots death lasers, making it highly effective against giant bugs"

One cool thing about Chrono Trigger so far is I keep entering situations where I'd expect a character to clumsily explainquestion the situation like "Huh? Where are we? We must be" etc etc, but it mostly just leaves you to actually use your brain a little and figure it out.

Not that the plot or progression are that complicated, but there have been multiple situations where I know a modern game would have had another character voice whatever questions the player has and then give answers to them, instead of letting you make assumptions.

Welcome to Szymantober, in which a bunch of Szymanski announcements all clump together in one month. TO BEGIN WITH, My Friendly Neighborhood is coming to Switch 2 October 22nd!

I started out pretty AI neutral, aside from the environmental concerns, but I'm, being pushed into hating it more and more because it keeps making things I care about actively worse, and the results keep speaking for themselves in a really bad shitty way.

It's getting so you can't even disconnect and go enjoy niche interests without finding that someone's using AI to just spray manure everywhere because now there's nothing in their way.

I've been working on a very weird Pico8 game off and on. It's kind of a minimalist puzzle/adventure game. Would releasing it for free on Steam be nice or is that just adding to the deluge? It's a game that's going to have niche appeal at best, zero appeal at worst lol

So I've tried to simplify down the number of games I'm playing, and I have it down to 4. Control and Divinity Original Sin 2 on PC Chrono Trigger on my at home handheld Link's Awakening on my Miyoo Mini That's still a lot of games but it's easier to focus on

I know I'll never be able to completely force myself to finish games before moving on to others, but I think it will be easier to avoid the newness dopamine chase if I literally don't have other options installed.

I finally reached the end of my rope with the whole videogame choice paralysis thing and deleted every game from my PC except what I'm actively playing. Even Doom and Quake. I feel a little woozy.

Every few months I'm like "I should make a CRPG" and then it never goes anywhere because I have no idea where to even start designing or programming the framework for something like that.
