Roughly 3 million Palestinian adults across Gaza, the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem have no vote in the government that controls their borders, movement and legal status.

That’s because the Israeli state was founded on the principles of Zionism, the racist colonial movement that envisioned a Jewish-only state on Palestinian land. Regardless of who becomes prime minister, Palestinians will continue to face occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing and now genocide.

A state cannot be truly democratic when rights are allocated on the basis of identity. Under Israeli law, Jewish rights are repeatedly placed over Palestinian rights.

Today, Israelis are voting for their next prime minister. But don’t be fooled. Regardless of who wins the election, Israeli apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide of Palestinians will continue, because the Israeli government is rooted in settler colonialism and racism.
