LLMs write more code every day but they learned from the web’s existing (often insecure) codebase. Devs now need to catch what AI gets wrong, not just write from scratch. I built a hands-on course for that: patch a real vulnerable TS/Express app. boot.dev/courses/learn-web-security-typescript

boot.devLearn Web Security in TypeScript: Interactive Course | Boot.devLearn web security in TypeScript by hardening authentication, authorization, storage, infrastructure, and incident response in a real Express app.

The past week or so has been fairly constant teaching and so I’ve been in VSCode and vim. I went back to Cursor today and it loaded up in agent mode. Was a bit confused and then found the button to switch to IDE mode, phew. when I quit and came back again, same problem. Is their new owner?

I've moved from Inoreader to NetNewsWire to read my RSS feeds. I love it but it groups my feeds by publication and I don't know if it's possible to change it. Anyone use it and know if I'm missing something?

When I linked to this article, this was the headline. Clicking through now that article has changed. It still includes information about Cursor but as part of a whole. It feels like this should be a new article with a new link.

Explain your @ I love learning and I think you need to “do” stuff to learn - dolearning And I am a developer and developer educator - .dev

Good lord, this is delightful. And it’s by Charles Petzold, the guy who wrote the Turing biography I read while writing samwho.dev/turing-machi.... codehiddenlanguage.com/Chapter14/

Got a DJI Mic Mini so I could improve my audio quality in future videos. Course recordings are normally at my desk with my lovely Shure mic but talking heads were harder. It wasn't working. Very confused. Turns out I was plugging it into the headphone jack not the mic jack! Doh!

While training yesterday, I tried to zoom in on some JSON on my browser and Chrome crashed. Tried again, same thing. Decided I'd try switching to Firefox again and my old preferences had Vimium installed - forgot how amazing the web is with Vimium. Hoping to stick to FF this time - let's see!

Some of the things that I'm enjoying: - finding clickable targets with f - seeing my open tabs in a command palette with T - opening a new url with o When Arc stopped being useful, I felt sad to lose some of those things. Vimium adds them back :)

I really enjoy working with Claude code. Tried doing API pay as you go and it clocked up fast, upgraded to Pro and I keep hitting usage limit, trying to decide if I can justify Max as a solo dev. With a Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor subscriptions and I'm feeling bled dry by AI companies.

Planning a one shot for my D&D group - our DM is overwhelmed and I’m picking up the reins. Going to do a Blades in the Dark inspired heist game. Imagine Ocean’s 11 but we start in the middle of the heist-every time we hit an obstacle there’s a flashback to explain how someone prepared for it.

Last week, I stole a classic classroom move for a corporate AI ethics session: think->pair->share. A prompt for individuals to think about (90s), pair with someone next to them to discuss (3 min) and then share with the group. Zero grandstanding, lots of voices. Best conversations of the day.

My kid is doing a Python summer camp and asked me to look at the code he’d written for a text adventure game. Couldn’t help saying “yuck” when I saw he was using the global keyword. Other than that it was looking good
