The Plot to Enslave America. Harsh treatment of student borrowers both makes those currently in the labor pool more willing to submit to exploitation and future workers less likely to go to college (where they could compete with the aristocrat children of the elite). Big win for the oligarch class

A first home. Kids. A family. Borrowers are putting these on hold to deal with astronomical student loan payment increases due to Trump killing the SAVE plan. They’ve done everything right and are now scraping to get by. What kind of American dream is that? www.businessinsider.com/student-loan...

A trifecta in Texas basically lets us permanently control the House.

Hyde T. Voltyge@hydevoltyge.bsky.social

Important thread of State Senate races in Texas, yeah many of them are >20 points of margin to flip, but honestly... It's in play. GOP polling says they're losing R+23 SD-02. They could lose more. As I've said, Texas is the epicenter of the national wave this year.

The fallacy of the climate movement's electric car advocacy is belief it's faster to get people into EVs than into walkable homes where they can drive less. The reality is it's probably ten times faster to build homes in walkable neighborhoods than to convince people to buy electric cars.

Yonah Freemark@yonahfreemark.com

The very slow speed of federal grant funding: —Nov 21: Congress enacts IIJA; includes $5 b for EV chargers —States take 2 years to plan —Oct 23: Oregon completes 1st step of solicitation process —Dec 24: Station finalists selected —Aug 25: Money obligated —Late 26: Maybe first chargers will open?

The GOP is an opposition party even when it's in power, the idea that they are the perpetual underdog is central to their internal mythology and can't be disturbed by facts or the results of elections. It's also why they're bad at, you know, governing.

In the 20 years since California's carbon emission peak in 2004, we've both slashed those emissions by 28% and nearly doubled our economy. The Golden State’s economy is growing BECAUSE of our climate action, not despite it. #ClimateWeekNYC

Stop calling this a DC makeover. This is an illegal desecration of our capital and a huge waste of American families’ money. DC is sacred ground, and we shouldn’t minimize the real damage being done.

College kids also actually live in the place where they go to school Plus the “wishes” they’re “overcoming” here are NIMBY policies so bad that they’re driving students to homelessness. Sorry but it’s reasonable to expect some of the wealthiest cities in California to allow more housing!

Tom Nichols@radiofreetom.bsky.social

Well, that's a new one. "College kids should be able to vote to overcome the wishes of the people who actually live in the place where they go to school"

College students not only do live in the towns where they go to school, but many end up staying and working for the universities post graduation. NIMBYs routinely vote against the interests of future students, and current students should vote in their interest and those of future students

stuff like this is why one important avenue for court reform is just nixing the shadow docket altogether and forcing these people to explain themselves to the public when they issue orders. also, making their records property of the united states and subject to publication when they leave the bench.

Alex Aronson@alexaronson.bsky.social

Amy Coney Barrett just told Congress that it would be inappropriate to explain the reasoning behind the Court’s unreasoned shadow docket orders. As if unreasoned judicial orders are a thing. They are not. The reasoning is the whole point.
