“I KVM between Mac, windows, and Linux all the time - make the keyboard shortcuts consistent with Mac shortcuts on all platforms” ✨

“This usb device is bricked, anything you can do? Yeah, it’s stuck on the boot loader. Looks like the firmware is corrupted… Downloaded it and reflashed it. Works now.” ✨

It would be tremendously good if even a fraction of these people choose to focus on improving themselves rather than crying for Daddy to remake the world for their convenience. One can hope.

Frustrated younger, male voters feeling locked out of the economy and diminishing opportunities are rapidly abandoning the Republican coalition, or straight up opting out of political action altogether

God damn if Home Assistant isn’t 100x better when you just give Claude Code SSH access and let it write everything you want.

Finding stuff that’s been retired (which I didn’t explicitly ask for, but is adjacent to what I did ask and makes sense) and then cleaning it up:

This is how cowards behave. Trump does it too--docile in a meeting then brags publicly on social that he let the other guy--who was 'dishonest, totally horrible to me' or whatever--have it

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

The phrase "tactful fabulism" is a wonderful way of describing someone who is cordial at a meeting, but then recalls it as subject to violent disagreement and threats to his businesses. This is something Andreessen has done throughout his career.

Does he imagine this an exclusive club? Because as an independent cisgender wizard I *also* hate Donald Trump.

Just learned of the cancellation of the Grace Hopper conference, super sad. I’ve unfortunately been close to similar things happening during COVID - and so I know a bit about what this looks like on the inside. Here’s what’s probably going to happen… 🧵

Maybe some of that can be negotiated for a discount on a future event. Maybe. It probably won’t matter, because there is unlikely to be a next conference, and if it is it will be much smaller so needs a smaller venue. Because the foundation likely declares bankruptcy without an urgent rescue.

I’m sure conversations are being had behind the scenes. It would be great if a major donor steps in, and I sincerely hope that they do. I fear that in the current political climate they may not.

The venue is gonna get paid, the vendors are gonna get paid. Those contracts are pretty rock solid. It is very unlikely that a clause exists allowing Anita Borg Foundation off the hook just because ticket sales are low. Venues do this for a living, they aren’t on the business of eating client risk

The immutable, unnamed American law of The Dumbest Thing That Can Happen Will Happen dictates that the Democrats will win the House handily, as projected, and take the Senate 51-49, making John Fetterman the most powerful flesh husk in America for the next 24 months.

As a former game developer this type of behavior by “game” companies makes me absolutely furious.

Morgan Johnson@poormojo.bsky.social

No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

Yes, can I order two of those please? Actually, how many do you have in stock?

Steve Bannon issues warning to voters if they vote for Democrats in the midterms: “I think you’ll see Bobby Kennedy impeached, I’ll think you see Pete Hegseth impeached. I think you’ll see subpoenas flying every day. They will look to destroy Trump, and we’ll be bogged down for two years.”

More of this. Much more.

New working paper: the Norwegian wealth tax was a huge success. The "exodus" of wealthy people never happened (less than 100 individuals left). Tax revenue increased by 71.5%. No changes in business activity or investment. www.nber.org/papers/w35854

Famously, the Civil War was called “Civil” because of how polite everyone was at the time.

Zach Weinersmith@zachweinersmith.bsky.social

I keep seeing people say some version of "it used to be normal to politely disagree on things before the Internet," and I don't think that's right. It was and remains normal to not be a shithead in face-to-face communication. We just have less of that now, and WAY less with people we disagree with.

Many years ago, I wrote down this bit of a speech Obama gave to an audience in Silicon Valley. Because it absolutely NAILED the difference between government and business.

The most damaging political idea I've seen in my lifetime is the idea that government should be run like a business

Being nice to the people around you is an asset. You need them when the weather will kill you dead-dead. It certainly doesn’t make you a sucker.

Elizabeth Spiers@espiers.bsky.social

I think Trump being a dick to Canada is going to illustrate to everyone that being nice is not the same as being weak. Because Canadians tough out insane weather and foreign policy conditions and will also destroy you if you get to the end of their rope. They just have a long rope bc they’re nice

I’m not kidding about that, last time I visited my family over Christmas two people froze to death during the two weeks I was there. And it’s not a big town.

All week the first thing our little guy does after getting up in the morning is to point outside and vocalize loudly. We thought he wanted to listen to the birds or watch the trees. No, he wants to eat the tomatoes. ALL the tomatoes.
