@freya.bsky.social 's latest video inspired me to finally release a very personal article I've cooked for a while. I considered using some slop as the cover image initially. But that would taint the personal nature, and after her speech at the end I for the first time decided to hand draw something.

dmytroengineering.comSo you want to get into electronics?A thoughtful guide pointing you toward the right resources, skills, and ways to explore and get good at electronics.

@porkbun.com What the hell is this list of administrative divisions for Ukraine you got? Why is Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts are missing, despite being internationally recognized Ukrainian territories? Did putin and orban write these?

Maker Faire Hannover Post 2: @dmytroengineering.com helped me unbrick an MSO-X 3034A! NAND flash corruption is a known issue and repairs are well-documented, but we came up with a method that uses ethernet to load the flash, plus this gives us an opportunity to bypass future NAND degradation!

I just realized that my new signal generator has adjustable rise and fall times, so here's a demonstration of I/C = dV/dt using a 10 nF / 1 kฮฉ highpass filter

RIP Marvell 10Gbit NIC... At least you gave us the ball pinout in return for your sacrifice... Another sacrificial 10Gbit card (Realtek this time) has been ordered, why can't they just make the datasheet public smh...

the HMC8043 completes my all-LAN all-SCPI setup! to celebrate, I wrote a script that loads a few useful voltage/current configurations without having to fiddle with the front panel controls

Just connecting a client with a 10Gbit NIC to my router's 10Gbit Ethernet interface causes the average power draw of the entire rack to jump up by 3-4W. Not even routing traffic, just having a 10Gbit link in general.

I have now abused Apple Find My and Google Find My (Hub?) (why are they names the same?). Now I have a low power Bluetooth MCU, a debugger and some free time. About to make a horrible polyglot tracker abomination.

Turns out Google is quite weird if you want to get working key rotation on your DIY tags... But I think I'm onto something and just need a bit more testing to confirm.

yep... 4 gigasamples per second with "6.5 digit" resolution... it took 33 minutes to capture 1.2 ฮผs worth of waveform (timebase not calibrated yet)

Reminder to configure earlyOOM and or watchdog on your servers... In case some fuckass service decides to leak memory at GBytes per minute and lock up a remote machine with no kvm ๐Ÿ’€

age verification? I used IR ports to send java apps and ringtones around.

age verification? i still feel like linux 2.6 is kinda new bsky.app/profile/jcog...

Wanted to disable my rack cooling fans when the HDDs are spun down but I forgot about the toasty PSU that also needs cooling in there.

the reason the current source looks so small and weird is because I want to cheap out on shipping when I send this out for characterization
