maiden bloom on a plant I imported from Thailand a year ago, labeled "Primulina aff. maculata" It looks so cute the way the flowers peek out from under the leaves. #gesneriaceae

I received an AI-composed letter from a gardening club that I quit from 20 years ago. They want me back. It came from the woman responsible for me leaving. She was founder of the club and shortly after my joining took *great* offense that I used the club email list to offer free plants & seeds

A similar thing happened in the local Iris club. The club leaders were all nursery owners & only promoted the types of irises sold by their nursery. With me growing heaps of other types of exotic irises, they treated me horribly, as I was pulling focus away from their customers.

I was flabbergasted at the egos & politics of clubs created to promote *flowers* and *gardening*. Suffice it to say I pulled out of almost every club I was in because of this. It was ruining my joy. If this letter I got tonight had been authentic (not AI) I might have responded. But not now.

to other members, that I had in abundance. She told me that as leader of the gardening club she was the only one allowed to email other members. Other members owned native plant nurseries & were apparently mad about me offering free stuff. But she didn't tell me that. She just had a power trip.

Three years ago, my dad said that all fish are the same shape. Out of spite, I decided to draw all 478 families of bony fish listed in Nelson 2016. There's still some stuff I need to edit and some fish I want to redraw but, after 985 days, I finished my big dumb fish project last night.

I bought a sack of miscellaneous international coins at auction for dirt cheap. most are modern (not older than me) and not particularly valuable. some are rare & valuable. a few older ones contain silver. and this 1862 half penny is the oldest, but only worth about $0.75 in such worn condition.

well I got f*cked on another lot from that auction. 41 of the 45 were counterfeits! all Chinese. all modern counterfeits of vintage coins. the four REAL coins hailed from India, Bahamas, Belgium, and Denmark.

I wish there was recourse with the auction house but you're supposed to verify such things before you bid. so that's a lesson learned moving forward.

overheard a woman at the Home Depot customer service counter complaining that she should *STILL* get free delivery and the low sale price on the appliances she ordered during the 4th of July sale event even though she wasn't home to accept delivery THREE TIMES already. Bxtch what?!

how does the high bid on an auction keep going *down* ? this item was at $35 this morning, then when i checked it an hour ago it was at $18, and when I just checked it again it's at $8. bidding ends in 25 minutes.

I am finding great treasures at bargain prices on these professional auction house websites but OMFG some of them only ship by UPS and you end up paying $24 instead of $5 if it went via USPS.

i just won a vintage Christmas decoration for $15 that sells on eBay for $75. and afterwards found our the shipping was another $18. it's still a bargain but... fuuuuuuuuuuuck. #butfuck

PATRICK STEWART singing & dancing on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-D in 1991 as a birthday surprise for STAR TREK creator GENE RODDENBERRY. (never intended for public release this clip eventually surfaced as a DVD bonus feature)

hey British friends, I have a 1969 "5 new pence" coin. I tried to look up its value and it says it's demonetized. does that make this more valuable (to you) than just 5p ?

😱😱😱 And just like that, it’s completely VANISHED from the media. A sitting congressman, Ted Lieu, said on the record the Epstein files are being blocked because they show Trump raped and threatened to kill children. Lets make this viral again 👇

I keep getting messages from the state of Michigan that it's time to renew my business license for the LLC that I operate there and....... that's not me. Whoever does own it accidentally entered my email address as theirs. It's not any cousin of mine but it might be one of their kids or grandkids.

i'm frustrated. i attended 2 different auctions today and lost all the things i wanted. in one case i was the high bidder but someone else bid the same amount as me via a different platform, and the auctioneer gave it to them. i had a bit of a "I'm Karen & need to speak to the manager" moment.

they said the auction is simulcast across various websites & also live in-person. if they receive multiple matching high bids the auctioneer's decision is final. it's not first-come-first-served it's just up to the auctioneer's discretion, which sucked for me in this case. fuck my bid, right?

Yesterday, NASA broke a record. The longest distance travelled by a vehicle on the surface of a world other than Earth. The Perseverance rover has now driven 45.22 km, beating the previous record of 45.16 km by the Opportunity rover. Perseverance did the distance in 5.5 years to Oppy's 15.

I've been having a lot of fun & success with estate sale auctions, but occasionally heartache. Like this vintage Bitossi vase that's going for $2 because the auction is taking place in rural WV and they do NOT do shipping. It's worth $600.
