Aaand we're back!

We'll be taking the PDS down for a few minutes later today to perform some updates. No, we don't use PHP and the updates in question are not related to pwn day in any way, we're just taking advantage of everyone being used to everything going down for maintenance today to do ours as well.

PDS reassignment surgery was a success, we now have an off-site mirror node ready to pick up the vital task of proxying images of well-endowed anime women from your AppView of choice directly into your Client of choice at the drop of a hat.

We're planning to test automatic PDS failover to the backup mirror later today. If everything goes right - you shouldn't notice anything more than a 15-30 second blip in availability. However, we still recommend taking a repo backup and setting a custom PLC rotation key *just in case*.

Just to be clear, we do not expect any data loss during this test. The worst that can reasonably happen is a few minutes of downtime. PDS data itself is stored in two separate places and we're not planning to mess with that storage in any way. But you should still take backups, really.

Hi! This is your reminder to generate your own PLC rotation key for your account if you haven’t already. We have possible significant infrastructure changes somewhere on the horizon in the next few months, and while we don’t expect any outages or data loss, it’s always a good idea to have a backup.

Once again, we don’t expect you to need to actually use it any time soon, but just like with any other backup solutions, it’s better to have it just in case something goes very wrong.

Hi! This announcement is extremely overdue, but the PDS is no longer accepting new signups. We have no plans of shutting down and all the existing accounts will keep working as they always did, there is no change in that.

In short, we've reached the capacity we're comfortably able to support, and growing further would require dedicating more effort to PDS maintenance and support than we are currently able to justify. This may change in the future, but for now we would like to just level off here and be sustainable.

this is really cool actually!! now you can try migrating to a third-party PDS (like ours :3) and if you don't like it there - come back to your previous bluesky-hosted PDS!

okay and as promised, the bluesky PDS is officially open for returning users to migrate their accounts back! hoping this lowers the stakes & gives folks the confidence to explore some other PDSs in the network! docs.bsky.app/blog/incomin...

planning to do some network restructuring later today, the PDS will be switched over to the backup uplink until it's over might experience a small blip when changing the networks, and slightly worse performance while on the backup connection, but otherwise it should be ok will reply here when done

Our PDS is physically located in Tokyo, so if your client (like deer.social) doesn't tell the AppView you're somewhere else - thanks to service proxying, the best guess at where you're at, from the AppView's perspective, could only be Tokyo (from the IP address of the PDS).

Just had a voltage drop in the circuit powering the PDS, the UPS kicked in, and it seems to have gone back to normal now, but just in case it drops again - assume the possibility of unexpected downtime in the following couple of hours

i think this is pretty obvious by itself but still i have 0 motivation to do anything related to atproto or bluesky until my account (@astrra.space) gets unbanned so the maintenance of pds-dash and any other related witchcraft systems projects is now on hold
