Do not surveil your lover like a security camera or panopticon to control or punish their behavior, but rather surveil them in the nature of "sickos: Yes... YES", to get off on it.

So, I don’t know exactly why this is happening, as I’m no longer involved, but I do have some experience with the collection of npm download counts. This smells WAY MORE like a data collection error, not a sudden unexplained behavior change on the part of the entire world in tandem.

Cynthia 🐈@cynthia.dev

Interestingly, as of a few days there's been an ecosystem-wide collapse in download counts, **all** following the exact same cliff pattern. 👀

I am exasperated with people accusing programmers of "gatekeeping" programming. We were practically dragging people through the gate. Do you know why a mindless LLM can tell you so much great programming information? It's because we've been sharing that information for free online for decades.

I appreciate @acollierastro.bsky.social’s desire to not make anyone feel dumb, which is noble and the correct stance for an educator. But I am a former academic from basically the wordsiest of disciplines and I composed in LaTeX. Because Word is the literal worst. She is 100% right about this!

Hi science journalists and child development folks, I am looking for information on the impact of traffic, active vs. car commute, and commute times on toddlers. Point me in any direction!

Here is an insane piece of lore inside SQLite's source code I am researching VACUUM and I was studying their code. In VACUUM, SQLite creates a temp file prefixed with `etilqs_` Here is why:

I am basically a homebody and I was childless in 2020/21, so covid social isolation truly was easy mode for me. But it did suck for a lot of people and I don't quite know how to put this but I think we should cultivate more gratitude for people doing shitty hard things for the collective good.

Faine Greenwood@faineg.com

my edgy Covid take is that I while I did socially isolate until vaccines came online for the good of society, I absolutely loathed being unable to see people in person, throw a party, or travel for over a year, and I enjoyed absolutely nothing whatsoever about any of it

you don't see husbands realizing they forgot their anniversary and searching for a gift and seeing the necklace their wife wanted in a window for $50 and pulling out an empty wallet and moths flying out and then seeing a poster that says "BOXING MATCH FIRST PRIZE $50" and saying "hmmm" much anymore

My sister and I laughed so hard at this tweet one night that I named her "she doesnot leave the lizard alone" in my phone. that's still her name to this day

At this point, if someone ran for president on the single campaign promise that they'd hang Trump and Hegseth for war crimes, they'd have my vote. Hell, I'd knock on doors for them. That is not even an extreme leftist thing, "killing fascists" is like, a 1940s-era conservative position.

Look, it’s right there in the name, “le mort d’auteur” only applies if the author is dead. If you really are that desperate to spend your time and money on the terribly built fictional world of the transphobia-supporting racist antisemitic franchise, you know what you must do.

This is clearly a fake image. Earth is nowhere near that close to Saturn.

Paul Byrne@theplanetaryguy.com

There's a giant hexagonal storm at the north pole of Saturn. It's 29,000 km across. So here's Earth for scale.

Shipwreck@shipwreck75.bsky.social

Iranian representatives have let the US know they have a high bar for re-entering negotiations for a cease-fire deal. The IRGC has consolidated power within the Iranian regime and is making demands such as the closure of all American bases in the Gulf and reparations for attacks on Iran.

I extremely hate that "prove this wasn't authored by AI" is a thing that people think is worthwhile or possible. It's not just foolish and harmful — it's embarrassing. (See what I did there?)

Periodic reminder: "ask" has been used as a noun in English since Old English "ascian" (and its variant "acsian" as well.) Both "ask as a noun" and "pronouncing 'ask' like 'aks'" are *centuries older than the word "ask"*. When someone complains about either, they are admitting to prideful ignorance

We’ve modernized those old stodgy “academic” “subjects” and replaced them with poop from a butt. That’s right. No more long hours studying, just to be a bore at parties. Now, students will have that stamp of academic approval on the poop from their butts as they prepare to enter the job market.
