Looking for a (neuroscience) PI position in France? You still have time to do it this year, but you need to act fast. If you have no idea how to do it, start by reading this! l1nk.dev/hk1mx6e 1/

Finally, IL-1β increased CD8⁺ T cell infiltration into the dorsal hippocampus, independently of exercise. These cytotoxic T cells negatively correlated with neurogenesis, suggesting they may directly suppress new neuron survival.

IL-1β caused microglial lipid-droplet accumulation (LDAM) — a hallmark of dysfunctional, pro-inflammatory microglia seen in ageing. And… Exercise paradoxically exacerbated this lipid accumulation in IL-1β animals.

We then performed some transcriptomics analysis of hippocampal microglia (CD11b⁺ sorted) which revealed that: - In healthy rats exercise had clean anti-inflammatory gene-level effects (↓Cxcr3, ↑Fgf10) - In IL-1β rats exercise enriched immune activation & leukocyte trafficking pathways (TREM)

In fact, IL-1β blunted exercise-induced neurogenesis, particularly in the dorsal hippocampus. Exercise increased new immature neuron numbers in healthy controls, but this effect was significantly reduced in IL-1β animals.

Exercise is one of the most powerful tools that supports brain plasticity. It boosts the birth of new neurons in the hippocampus (adult hippocampal neurogenesis, AHN) and supports memory. But does it work under all conditions?

We used a rat model of chronic low-grade hippocampal neuroinflammation by overexpressing IL-1β locally in the hippocampus mimicking the kind of inflammation seen in ageing and neurodegeneration also called «inflammageing ». Rats then had voluntary access to running wheels for several weeks. 🐀🏃

This is such a cool study, arising from a chance observation in the field. The authors were filming the flashing of fireflies in Thailand, but noticed that the chirping of nearby crickets seemed to be synced to the flashes...

Do animals have a favored tempo for communicating with each other? This study reveals a hotspot of 0.5-4 Hz for #communication across distinct species & modalities, hypothesizing that this may driven by biophysical commonalities of the receivers' #neurons @plosbiology.org 🧪 plos.io/4ccWuhh

Happy to see this work, led by our amazing Dr Caruso now out in Neuropharmacology !

#Exercise type can shape brain-related outcomes differently. A new paper in 𝑵𝒆𝒖𝒓𝒐𝒑𝒉𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒄𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 found that after 8 weeks, treadmill exercise improved spatial memory, while wheel running increased adult hippocampal #neurogenesis in rats. 📰 buff.ly/YS5tNUI #brainhealth @oliviafoleary.bsky.social
