ポケモンというよりAIスタンドバトルだな

加藤よしき@daitotetsugen.bsky.social

ネット上で「AIがこう言っています」に対して、「うちのAIはこう言っています」と反論しているのを見た。令和のレスバはポケモンバトルみたいになっていくのかもしれん

what people call 'good UI/UX' is so subjective. i daily-drove linux for like 3 years and then came back to mac. fine w both. but haven't used windows since XP and every time i have to use it, i'm baffled. i can't find bluetooth settings, i can't figure out networking, and why are there ads?!

i know there's a 'windows debloat' tool but good lord, windows is actually painful to use. to me, anyway. again this isn't a commentary on which OS is better; i don't care. just that it's totally possible for an 'obvious' interface to be really confusing to someone who is used to something else

every time i open up one of @bijan.bsky.social 's articles i see the top of my screen and my heart drops a tiny bit until i realize that's just the the title of the newsletter, not a warning incredible

this is really interesting. The sister's arguments comparing AI-generated video to how long it took to accept photographs in a courtroom in particular. It's obvious she's thought about this a lot. Everyone's line for what is 'acceptable' use of AI is different. Here's another example.

i am now uninterested in all journalism or television awards. i want to be featured in Costco Connection Magazine. this is my new career goal.

Putting this out there – I'm looking to speak to the developers behind Dressmaker! According to reports, one of the developers is disabled, which inspired the creation of the game. If anyone has any contact information, please let me know

hi friends, if you were looking for some good news, this is some good news here

Tess Owen@tessowen.bsky.social

Is this thing still on? Excited to share some personal news: I’m joining @wired.com as their new politics reporter!

yes. i wrote this article back in 2018 and it still holds up. ten minutes and you will have a simple profile. i wrote it for journalists, but it's even easier for academics (less updates). and yes, i stand by the 'ten minutes'. that includes getting a snack. ijnet.org/en/resource/...

ijnet.orgCreating a not-terrible journalist portfolio in 10 minutesGreetings, fellow journalist. Do you already have a website? Yes? Great!
samuel mehr@mehr.nz

early-career academics, if you don't have a website, make yourself one. yes it's annoying but just do it it can be plain text on a white background, or google sites, or even a free Wix one with ads. nobody cares we just need to be able to look you up, quickly, bc there's like 100 other apps here

In a rare Newsom W, today he signs AB 2222, the Community NEWS Act, which would establish some of the best tax incentives/rebates for newsrooms in the country. It would send $40M/year back into California newsrooms to keep journalists employed. Check out the presser happening live right now:

something i've been thinking about for years: in Chinese, 'artificial intelligence' is: 人=person 工=labor/work 智能=intelligence 'human-made intelligence'. "Artifice" implies surface-level/fake; "人工“ _can_ also mean fake, but also labor is implied. Somewhere in there, human work is acknowledged

this is my impression though. i'm not as confident in Chinese, so I'd be curious to hear what native /more proficient speakers think. (incidentally, in japanese people tend to just say "AI", even though 人工知能 is also a Japanese word. But since people just use the English phrase, the flavor is lost)

also i'm not trying to pull an 'ikigai' here, i swear. i just mean that it's interesting when phrases for the 'same' thing have a different contextual weight in different languages. if someone uses this to say something about Traditional Values or Sun Tzu or something I will confiscate your pu'er

absolutely worth reading. the turn near the end is pretty fascinating.

ProPublica@propublica.org

Hey, ProPublica reporter Jake Pearson here. I’m taking over the account to tell you about my new story. For months, I posed as a problem gambler on DraftKings to test the company's "responsible gaming" safeguards. Spoiler alert: They made me a VIP — and I lost $10K. Here's how it all went down. 🧵

genuinely the most impressive thing i've seen in a long time. i've watched like 100 of these and kinda been shocked at how much i've learned. also been inspired to make more of my own stuff.
