Let's just give up the ghost already, pre-publication peer review is neat and all but it is unpaid labor for companies that profit on it. It's sometimes useful but more of a cost in the cost-benefit analysis (and yes I know this is an extreme position)...

Reminded me of the parable of the devout salamander caught in a flood. The news recommended evacuation, but the salamander said, @itiscolossal.bsky.social will de-extinct me. As the waters rose, a neighbor offered to carry it to safety. It said, no, @itiscolossal.bsky.social will de-extinct me. 1/n

When I talk to lay folks, I often point out that biology is really exceptionology, I.e., the science of exceptions. Today, it has become easier than ever to study β€œweird” phenomena. I’m a bit of two minds whether that is always good, as β€œexceptions often prove (only) the rule”, as the saying goes.

So my advice to my biology colleagues and students is to β€œcelebrate the anarchy”. Think of it as job security-ish.

Maybe we can quit taking all that deextinction noise seriously and treat them like all the other tech companies that lied to credulous VC funders for 5 years and after failing to develop the product they were promising ran to the safety govt contracts

Delighted to share this new article where we propose our view for the next generation of human genetics. We argue a need for "Trait Causal Models" linking genetics to effects at all levels of biological structures, and talk about how to get there using gwas, perturbations and observational omics

It's been 30 years (!!!) since the conceptualization of GWAS. GWAS has driven tons of discoveries, but with recent experimental developments (CRISPR, single-cell omics), we thought it was time to think about how to drive the next 30 years of human genetics. doi.org/10.5281/zeno...
