At one point last year, my dad asked me if I missed working at @microsoft.com. At the time I was like, "no, not really". After the ad @elienyc.bsky.social is referencing, it's a very strong "No Fucking Way"

Newsletter is up. Turns out, I don’t like ads. I don’t like campaign ads mocking rape victims. I don’t like AI ads. Uhh, like and subscribe… because i don’t like ads :)

With all disrespect, fuck you Electronic Arts

Consolidation is killing our industry. The Gamergaters who make money off the rage game will have you think this is a victory. This is purely a loss. A loss of work and art and fun and expression in a space that desperately needs it. Massive fucking bummer.

I guess these guys are public enemy #1 now

What’s next? Maybe Hewlett Packard will announce that being mean or cruel to your printer will now be considered a violation of its terms of service. No more yelling at your printer for refusing to print black and white documents because it’s out of cyan ink.

I don’t care where you started out on the political spectrum If your kid comes out as trans & you don’t become a rainbow-clad, parade-cheering ally & rock-solid supportive girl/boy/enby dad/mom? You were never a parent at all You were a doll collector furious they didn’t stay in their packaging.

Hot on the heels of last's weeks v1.1 release, today we released v1.2 DBOS Java SDK! This release completes a pair of changes (workflow payload tables and delay debouncer) that stated in v1.1. By splitting the work across two minor releases, we avoided making a breaking change.

github.comRelease 1.2.0 · dbos-inc/dbos-transact-javaHighlights Workflow payloads live in their own tables (#579): 1.2 completes the move that 1.1 started. Workflow inputs, outputs and errors are now written to workflow_input and workflow_output, th...

Six years ago, DBOS started as a joint research project at MIT and Stanford on applying database principles to modern applications. Today we announced a major milestone: the issuance of U.S. Patent for our database-centric durable workflow architecture.

When you talk about the Trojan Horse people are like "they couldn't have been that stupid" as if the United States of America didn't elect Trump twice

I'm watching Alien (rewatching obviously) Why do spaceships even have self destruct systems in scifi stories? Not "jury rig the ship to explode", a system designed to blow up the ship. I mean, what's the reasoning behind that? Who thought that was needed or even a not-batshit-insane idea? smh

My mother had two siblings growing up and they would fight as sibling often do. One time when my mother's sister and brother were fighting her sister explained to my grandmother that "by mistaking my foot was in his face". It was an #HonestMistake

OpenAI has confirmed that sometimes GPT 5.6 could make "an honest mistake" and delete your home directory. It's recommended to enable sandboxing protections including auto review to protect against this problem while OpenAI works on mitigations. 😬

I *LOVE* Shaolin Soccer and cannot wait to see this movie! Thanks @bobchipman.bsky.social for sharing!

Bob Chipman ("MovieBob")@bobchipman.bsky.social

Speaking of box-office and things American media isn't paying attention to, the biggest hit in China right now is... ...a "woke reboot" of 'SHAOLIN SOCCER.' Really. Which means ...somebody else figure out what that means 🤣🤷‍♂️

We just released DBOS Golang 0.19.0 This release introduces transactional data sources to the SDK. You can now execute your database queries and DBOS durability operations in the same transaction, enabling exactly-once execution. Full release notes: github.com/dbos-inc/dbo...

I just pulled the trigger on DBOS Transact for Java v0.9. Major new features include: * Step Factories / @TransactionalStep - checkpoint DBOS steps inside a transaction * Dynamic Queues - queues can now be created/updated/deleted at runtime

* Debouncer - collapse multiple workflow calls withing time window into a single execution (Thanks Eugene Smith for the contribution!) * SendBulk - atomically sends messages to multiple workflows * CockroachDB support * Improved Registration API Full release notes: github.com/dbos-inc/dbo...

I recently discovered that several developers are using Clojure with @dbos.dev Transact Java. We don't have official support (yet!) but I just published a Clojure version of the standard DBOS Starter app. Just the ticket for any other developers looking to add durable execution to their Clojure app

As a newcomer to the Java ecosystem, I had no idea how much Spring Boot brings to the table in terms of developer experience. We work hard at @dbos.dev . to make durable execution easy. However, the Spring Boot team takes the idea of "get started with minimum fuss" to the next level.

I just published the 0.8 release of DBOS Transact for Java. It's been about three months since our last release. Doesn't seem like much time, but when I look over the release notes...We sure got a lot of stuff done. Release notes: github.com/dbos-inc/dbo...

Highlights include: * Moving API interface from static to instance methods * Initial Kotlin and Spring Boot support * Interop with DBOS Python, TypeScript, Go and PL/pgSQL * Improved testing infra using parallel Testcontainers that runs the whole test suite in about 90 seconds on my local dev box

Creating agent workflows and architecting the logic is one thing, making them durable and fail-safe is another👇 New integration for durable agent workflows with @dbos.dev execution - Make sure your agents survive crashes, restarts, and errors without writing any checkpoint code.

A presentation so nice, I'm doing it twice. I'll be delivering my Building Reliable Workflows in Java talk again on Feb 24th, this time in Seattle. If you're a Java (or Kotlin!) developer, come hear all about what you can do with DBOS. www.meetup.com/seajug/event...

Highly recommended! @bobchipman.bsky.social stuff is always top notch, but the history here was so frakking interesting!

Traffic is (starting) to pick up on the new episode, but reminder again our ability to make these is very much proportionate to how much people "want" them so all views and shares remain deeply appreciated 🙏 youtu.be/Y4KcKvDer-U?...

Looking forward to the next #SeattleSystems meetup: luma.com/n6a1kjgj. My background is compilers & debuggers, with a healthy dose of database stuff. But I like to get outside my wheelhouse when I can, so I'm really excited about the Protosocket talk.
