Reminder that pressure erodes the ability to consent. If your “no” feels unwelcome, shameful, or unsafe, then how can your “yes” feel meaningful and authentic? How can you freely give consent, if it is demanded? And if “consent” IS expected, then maybe that’s enough reason, by itself, to say “no”.

We, internationally, need to do exactly what the Brazilians did and lead by example with: 1) Block all far right figures/accounts 2) Never share a far right account even to dunk on them 3) Never reply to a far right account even to dunk on them Completely cut their algorithmic advantage

hm... based on what y'all are saying about it, I suspect if I go see Wildwood, I will probably need to go with someone who is okay with me turning into a sobbing mess. Sooo... anyone wanna go see it? :3

I don’t know what it means to “fight my fursona” as if one or the other of us could “win”, because my fursona is me and I fight myself all the time and I always lose

Oh, and if you need to map this to the Greater Goings On: This is literally why "weirdos" works politically. It's a refusal to participate in the premise. The "concerns" are invalid; their intentions are malicious, and the outcomes are toxic. You don't *prove* that. You talk as if it's *proven*.

Leiracal@leiracal.bsky.social

Recognize when an interaction is optional and requires you or your group's consent, and revoke that participation and consent when that's the healthy path forward for you. Don't allow yourself to be hurt because you felt compelled to play by invisible rules. Take your damn ball and go home.

Christ, I can’t stop being a manager, can I. :p I can’t not look after my team, can’t not notice when people are getting stressed, overwhelmed, lost in the sauce. Can’t help but try to guide, shape, influence, push back, support, protect. This is just as much me as uwu subby kitten. Yin and yang.

Mm, manager isn’t the right word. I’m not a manager. “Manager” is a job title. “Leader” maybe? I wouldn’t presume to take that title for myself but I don’t know exactly what word I’m looking for.

Gonna boost this ‘cuz it’s cute, and while my art budget for the year is already spoken-for, I hope to see some of these YCHs on my timeline at some point <3

Man I am wiped this morning, the meet yesterday was absolutely delightful and I love seeing a lot of my friends in one place. But then I sleep like ass and it doesn’t even matter that I was a good kitten and got home before midnight. XD

Actually: I would like a second opinion on this PR. If you're familiar with LLMs and understand enough CSS to be dangerous, DM me?

Des@deskitty.bsky.social

*heavy sigh* I hate that LLMs mean I now have to be suspicious of new contributions to Tab Stash. I got a PR where I explicitly told the person beforehand not to use AI, and it had a few obvious problems with it that suggest to me they didn't even look at the output before posting it.

On a related note: maybe I need to add a "reporter is unhinged" resolution type to my issue tracker. Not gonna call anyone out or reference the issue in question but uh... wild to have someone just rant about computers in my inbox. "Reporter needs to touch grass and maybe explore ADHD medication"

Like it's a small enough change that I can't *prove* they used AI... it could just be they're a junior engineer who didn't actually test their shit. But following the literal description of what's in the issue rather than using your brain is... also a bit of a giveaway.

Unsure what to do here. I feel kind of like an asshole for saying "uhhh did you use AI for this when I told you not to" because if they did, they're obviously just going to lie, but. I don't wanna be discouraging/unwelcoming of contributions, either.

The urge to just fuck off from work and go outside is rising. Also want to steal a friend or two. Too much to do. A cat can dream, though.

Me once again wishing I had my espresso machine out of storage as I contemplate the fact that I forgot to make a new batch of cold brew for tomorrow and it’s too late (and I’m too lazy) to start now…

New avatar get! Super happy with how this came out, @captyns.bsky.social nailed it on the first try. <3 The old one had a good run (since 2014 or so), and I still love it, but I've been wanting something that feels more "me" for a while now, especially to match the new refsheet.

It is... more enby-coded than what I'm used to, but that also feels right. That's its own experiment, though.

Apparently having a not-yet-expired Nitro subscription means ... I get to see MORE ads! For Best Buy's SPECIAL OFFER for Nitro subscribers! Apparently nobody at @discord.com stopped to think that maybe the reason people pay for Discord is so they DON'T SEE ADS. They have lost the plot.

Oooookay. Bluesky is exhausting today. Between the AI doomerism outrage and various microcosms of The Left eating each other over John Oliver’s latest shitpost and multiple people having (very understandable) bad brain days… I am declaring overwhelm, logging off, and going to touch some grass.

Having a lot of what I’ll call SOMO (sadness on missing out) around BLFC. A lot of my friends are there, I really want to spend time with them (and maybe make new friends)… and I can’t justify the time off work right now. We’re crunched for time and it would be deeply irresponsible of me. ><

I... wow holy shit this broke my brain. XD

Cat: Heeey! *pawpaw* Hey! Me: You still have food what is the problem Cat: Heeey! Meow! Me: *shows him his food bowl which has food* Cat: *goes into litterbox* Heeey! Meow! Me: So you want me to… watch you pee…? No, he wanted to pee, eat his crunchies, and THEN scream at me to refill the bowl.

The thing that really got me to start doing it was someone smarter than me telling me that it was anti community to only give care and not allow myself to receive it, because it has to go both ways and I was depriving people I loved the chance to help me. I got mentally judo'd so hard lol

Reflecting lately on how I've collected a lot of close but distant friends—folks I can be real with and who can be real with me, but who I see only rarely, because our lives have just gone in different directions. I feel like there should be a word for that (or maybe there is, and I don't know it).

Anyway, I had ramen with @biggreenlzrd.bsky.social last night. He's one such friend. We've only seen each other a few times this year, but every time, it's always lovely—we can talk about anything and everything for hours and it never feels like enough time. I cherish those moments.

This thread makes a lot of sense, and is why I kind of hate that Bluesky seems to be the one place all my friends went to after LiveJournal and then Twitter died. I miss LiveJournal. And Cohost for that matter (though Cohost had its own problems).

Grass Toucher Georg@avengingfem.me

i have a new theory of Social Media Bad. a lot of ink has been spilled about the addictive qualities of twitterlike social media, including many allegations of developer use of "dark patterns" and self conscious "engagement maximizing", but i'd like to propose something a little more mundane.

This phrase—"looking for an action that feels proportional to [my] emotional state" really accurately captures what I've been struggling with re. my exes. I have not been able to find something constructive to do that actually releases that energy. This is why I needed lorazepam last night.

I think what happens is that hurt folks are looking for an action that feels proportional to their emotional state. A big internet mob feels comforting and powerful. It feels so good to be heard and activate the army! It's a big boom.

But that energy is still begging to be released, and I have no idea how to do it in a way that leaves me proud of who I am and how I show up. I journal, I sadpost, I talk to my therapist and my friends (when I feel like they're not tired of hearing it)... I try to have better, happier experiences.

None of that feels like enough. "Release it, get it out of your system." "Just move on." "Let it go." Yes, but how? Maybe I'm already doing everything I can—I know there's no magic answer—but I'd be remiss not to keep looking. Thoughts welcome.

Life could have been different, life could have been *so much better*, and I haven't been able to convince myself that that alternate future wasn't real and doesn't matter. I feel robbed of a thing that was never mine to begin with.

So I am just trying to, in some ways, ignore it. Move on however I can: Get my own house in order. Seek out new experiences with new/familiar faces. Repair the relationships I let slide while I was pouring my heart and soul into a polycule that ultimately placed little value on my health/happiness.

I get that this has, at this point, taken on an obsessive quality. "It's been over a year, stop wasting your energy, move the fuck on, etc." Earnestly: I'd love to. I'm getting old, I don't want to waste my time on this shit. (Cue thoughts about OCD awareness month and it being my birth month. :p)

But the experience of being newly-single in your 40s just fucking sucks, for many reasons. And it's hard not to connect that day-to-day experience back to *why* I'm in this position in the first place, which reinforces the whole loop.

My continuing impulse is to rub their noses in it—remind them how they hurt and betrayed me, why they should be ashamed, etc. This is destructive and hurtful so I don't. Maybe I'm hoping to shame them into repair? I don't know. You can't repair the irreparable, though.

Happy birthday @wolfwithdances.bsky.social! I've known him for forever and he is one of the most dedicated, community-minded folks I know. We've known each other through a lot of life's twists and turns, and I'm happy to have him as a friend.

Uuugh I have been putting off deciding what to do for my birthday and it's fast-approaching. I always avoid thinking about it, Ammy used to plan it for me (with my input) and I just... uuugh. I don't know. I don't know why planning something for myself is so hard.

...okay I actually have an inkling. I think it's because I cannot, for the life of me, take up space. I *want* to do something that is just for me; that feels important, especially now... and yet.

i'm going to keep saying it until it sinks in: if you go "ugh, look at the nazi thing this nazi said!" then you are still making me read the nazi thing and i am not much better off than if i were just following the fucking nazi directly
