I have nothing to skeet, and I am skeeting it.
Sarcasm, dramatic irony, metaphor, bathos, puns, parody, litotes, satire, rubber ducks, sensible shoes, chocopies -- if we don't got it, you don't want it.

Gonna assume this is not voluntary reading.
Also gonna assume they have chapters/episodes teaching kids important family values like how to know when their teachers, friends and family members engage in soft resistance and how to turn them in to the police.

I shudder to imagine what the living conditions on such ships will be like, given how bad they are on land where they have easier access to supply chains.
For several days I have been hearing rumors of an ICE detainee death that ICE was not reporting. I've just learned a local journalist has confirmed it and will publish soon. Now I read this and see there are actually TWO deaths ICE is not reporting. www.daylightsandiego.org/ice-detainee...
Despite the agency's human resources department saying he hadn’t even been onboarded, Jeremy Lewin oversaw the destruction of USAID. It’s not clear he had the legal authority to do so.
I know I'm supposed to hate her for this, but I don't. I don't agree either. I think the Demos can get stuff done whilst also impeaching Trump. But remember he's been impeached and acquitted twice already (and got re-elected anyway), so let's not kid ourselves that impeachment = accountability. 1/2
Kamala Harris: I think that going in the direction of impeachment is not a good idea.
I was in the Senate for the last go-round, and the votes aren’t there.
I think after the election, we all have to just also agree that our attitude has to be to get stuff done…
To be clear, I'm in favour of impeachment, mainly so he can go down in history as the president who was impeached at least three times. I want that on his record.
But there's also an argument for not wasting time on a process that will fail, and arguably isn't a deterrent.

True accountability needs to come from criminal prosecutions after he leaves office -- for Trump and everyone else who crimed on his behalf. If we can't do that, we need to think hard about why that is, and if that's the kind of country America ought to be. 3/3
I genuinely don't think "Arabs were doing some really important work a thousand years ago" is a good rebuttal to RFK's racism.
Tawakkol Karman won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011. Omar M. Yaghi won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 2005. Maryam Mirzakhani won the Fields Medal in 1977.
RFK jr is an asshole (but we already knew that). Moreover, he's wrong.
Why is algebra called that? Who gave us the digit 0 (zero)? And our current number system? Why is the star Betelgeuse called that, for that matter? And so on.
The achievement of Serbian students overthrowing Aleksandar Vučić can't be overstated.
In 2024, they began protesting. In 2025, they transformed a protest movement into civil dissidence. In 2026, they became a political party — and two months later, crushed a corrupt state-entrenched authoritarian.
It's really damning. The accusations are numerous and well-supported. But I was really struck by the descriptions of Trump's behavior -- the name dropping, strong-arming, and attempts to buy off silence. His gross rivalry with Epstein. It's all so familiar. It's shit he's been doing his entire life.
Beyond disgusted by even more rape allegations against the President of the United States.
"In total, more than 25 different women...have independently accused Donald Trump of rape, sexual assault, or other sexual misconduct."

Kind of funny, in an Ancient Greek Hell kind of way, that this guy handed Trump the presidency in 2016, and as a reward Trump is kicking him in the teeth forever. www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...
China’s first AI-generated theatrical film, ‘Sanxingdui: Future Past’, has bombed at their domestic box office, only making $121,000 USD against a budget of $1.5M USD.
In contrast, the crudely animated ‘Niu Lai’ made nearly $10M USD against a budget of $200-500 USD.
My main question is whether this is common practice. Like, for example, if a police officer is injured by a triad member or other criminal in the line of duty, do they also sue them for damages? Is that even a thing? Or is it only for protesters? And if so, why? Legit question.
A Hong Kong police officer has sought at least HK$220,000 in damages from a man who stabbed him during a protest in 2020.

I think it’s a good thing to point out to people that attacks on trans rights are part-and-parcel of the far right program to make everyone’s rights negotiable and subject to revision at a moment’s notice.
In July, an incensed Elon Musk vowed that Grok Imagine would produce a "full-length" and "historically accurate" adaptation of Homer's Odyssey to put Christopher Nolan's woke version to shame. Three months later, we got seven minutes of slop that Grok itself admits is not historically accurate.
I wondered. I passed by Jardine House on my way to class and saw the emergency vehicles and a big crowd on the footbridge, then I saw some ppl with their phones pointed up. I was in a hurry so I didn't stop to look. I wondered if it might be a jumper. Glad it wasn't, and glad the workers are okay.
Social media reports that two workers were trapped and hanging off the exterior of Jardine House in Central after the gondola platform they were working on suffered a malfunction and rapidly descended to ground level. The workers have been rescued by emergency services.
I’m not a political journalist, so was gladly surprised at the community I found here last night. To Americans anxious about the upcoming elections, a key thing we learned in Brazil that might help you: DO NOT engage with the far-right online. Don’t share rage bait. Amplify your people. Ignore them.
You know, I've been to a The Cheesecake Factory exactly once in my life -- sometime in the mid-00s. The food was okay but IMO overpriced for what it is, and typical of American restaurants in that the portion sizes were just stupid. I ordered a half burrito and still couldn't finish it. 1/3
The following exchange (paraphrased) took place:
Server: Here's your burrito. (Places dish on the table with a burrito the size of a Size 12 running shoe)
Me: Sorry, I meant to order the half -sized burrito.
Server: That IS the half size burrito.
Me: Holy moly!
Server: I know, right?

I should also add that I went there to meet with friends while travelling stateside. It's not a place I'd voluntarily eat at on my own, partly because it's outside of my budget, and partly because there's no way I can eat that much food.
This has been my The Cheesecake Factory post. The End. 3/3
In response to long queues at Huanggang Port this weekend (including an HK01 reporter who spent 45 minutes in a sardine tin B13 bus & 50 minutes clearing customs), Chief Secretary Eric Chan encouraged travellers to consider staying overnight in Hong Kong

Wow, they removed the pay wall for ... THIS muddle-headed fear mongering.
Funny what gets framed as 'legitimate concerns' and what gets framed as hateful (of western civilization )'geievances'.
Agreed. Most whataboutism masquerades as calling out hypocrisy, but to me it always comes across as using that hypocrisy to justify whatever terrible policy or atrocity they're accused of.
As a side note, when I lived in China nearly 20 years ago, this was a common talking point among regular people in regards to Tibet. Often its purpose was the kind of whataboutism that served as a trump card or silencer in a debate, but it also had a flavor of “why can’t we do what yall did” too
Special arrangements could have been made to preserve a bit of Hong Kong's culture and history, but the government is incapable of doing anything other than paving things over with concrete.
I'm still picking my jaw up off the floor over five officers hearing an alleged shoplifter is running and exploding out into the parking lot with guns drawn like they just heard zombie Charles Manson was spotted.
Hello, new followers. I track ICE flights and third-country removals at @prospect.org. This is what the ICE Air operation looked like yesterday, Oct. 23, 2026.
--88 flights
--14 removal stops
--3 third-country removal stops
--Nearly all adult passengers shackled at the ankles, wrists & waist.
The trick will be how to get past the inevitable political ploys. Republicans will undoubtedly play the persecution card, which is why it's so hard to hold Presidents accountable apart from impeachment (which has yet to work in practice, and which itself is open to political abuse). 1/2
we're going to need a long-term plan, with broad political appeal, for ending impunity & holding the trump administration accountable for its crimes, malfeasance & cruelties.
not 'tit-for-tat' but an american version of transitional justice.
my take in @slate.com 👇
At the very least we need to look at why existing legal remedies don't work on someone like Trump, and seriously decide if we want a system that allows any POTUS to crime with impunity. If we don't, we need a workable system to deal with it. Not sure if that's doable in the current environment. 2/2
When a sex worker experiences violence, the hardest part of asking for help may be deciding whom to trust.

“A 79-year-old CO pastor who lost 35 pounds and the strength to walk after 13 months in immigration detention has been released by order of a federal magistrate judge.
The government ignored requests for a wheelchair. Instead, 3 other detainees carried Rev. Edward Nalwamba to a waiting vehicle.”
It's cute when some ppl who don't live in Hong Kong say life in Hong Kong hasn't changed since the NSL was pushed on us, because it most definitely has.

Seen it. It's alright for what it is, and it's one of those rare cases where the film is better than the book it's based on. (In this case, the big twist ending works a lot better on film than it did on the page.)
Service members, contractors, and military families are now coming forward with images they say the Pentagon hid, and the accounts behind them are brutal. From Saudi Arabia to Kuwait to Jordan, American bases were pummeled by Iranian drones and missiles.
