This is right in Seattle to. There is simply no faster way around central Seattle anywhere near rush hour than an ebike.
There are many reasons I bike everywhere, but one of the primary ones is, at least in San Francisco, it's frequently one of the quickest ways from point A to point b, especially with the advent of e-bikes flattening the hills

This picture is all I want for the city. (Well, also a few more apartments, buses, and trains.)
Alki Point Healthy Street Sunny day and a 0.4 mile of car free protection is open for kids of all ages to ride back and forth all day 🚲 The last block finished this week makes it extra long. Good for family members with energy to expend? Plus there is a fun beach to explore!
Reminder to all YIMBYs that more supply doesn’t do its job unless there is also rigorous and unapologetic fair housing enforcement. This shit is everywhere.

Unions supporting the union-busting party over culture war bullshit is the same thing as executives ("business community") supporting NIMBY housing policy that makes it impossible to house workers. Both are leaders corrupting institutions into acting against interest for narrow personal reasons.
I think that democratic politicians should not forget that the teamsters are going all out to defend swing seat Republican ghouls like Mike Lawler
We need to abolish the entire current “historic preservation” infrastructure and start over. It has become nothing more than a vehicle for self-important busybodies to block any progress on the city’s most pressing problems.
Landmarks board member Matthew Zinski (a partner at Weinstein A+U) seems to be indignant that the project proposes to maximize its development rights though the massing, pressing Clark on the design principles that led to the design...but says he doesn't want to hear words like "maximizing housing."
You couldn’t dream up a better example than this of the US mentality that wrongdoing using cars isn’t actually wrongdoing. The guy used a two-ton weapon to try to kill people. The fact that the weapon is a car shouldn’t change the analysis. The framing by @thomaslake is absolutely sociopathic.
This guy was caught on video committing one of the worst road rage incidents I've ever seen, plowing into a group of riders—and then he left the scene. Seriously, fuck the Atlanta Journal-Constitution for framing him as some sort of a victim. You are complicit assholes. www.ajc.com/news/2026/10...
Dare I hope that this is an oblique reference to Zucchini NIMBY from nearly a decade ago?
Grew more zucchini than one household can reasonably handle...? Bring your extra fruits and vegetables to the Crop Swap at Berkeley Harvest Festival. Swap seeds, trade gardening tips, and meet people who also have strong opinions about tomatoes. Oct. 17:
On the one hand: this is a great step. On the other hand: we need to do this in Laurelhurst or West Magnolia next.
MAJOR NEWS: The Seattle Social Housing Developer is announcing its first new construction project, in the Central District at 2402 E Yesler Way. The SSHD board is set to vote on property acquisition momentarily. Construction is set to start next year and wrap in 2028.

Listening to this man say that Katie Wilson is "uncomfortable" addressing homelessness, when her budget actually funds high-acuity shelter in a meaningful way for the first time in many years, is one of the more condescending things I've heard from the council in at least a minute.
Seems like these CMs, never the brightest lights on the marquee, have decided to tell their conservative supporters that the mayor is doing exactly what they want.
Council Critics Accuse Wilson of Creating "the Unfund Budget" “How many new bathrooms are proposed for expansion? Now we want to expand, create new shiny things, when we can’t even properly take care of the things we have today?”
People in cities who would really rather live in suburbs should move to the suburbs! And candidates in cities who would really rather live in the suburbs should run for office there. NY voters finally elected someone who actually likes cities, and maybe now LA voters can too.

I’m tweeting this far too often about this councilmember in particular, but, once again, there should be consequences for just making shit up on the dais.
Earlier, Maritza Rivera said removing encampments is "not a priority for this administration." As she confirmed to us on Seattle Nice, Mayor Wilson has kept up the pace of encampment sweeps that the Harrell administration maintained. So no, no one has "stopped the sweeps."
Multiple agencies all trying to build housing in our supply environment is a good thing, not a bad thing.
Maritza Rivera wants to make sure that social housing isn't "duplicating efforts" with the Office of Housing. A staffer says this is unlikely since they provide very different types of housing (very low-income subsidized housing vs. mixed-income cross-subsidized housing).
You want to know about things that cause loss of trees? Here is how you lose a whole lot of trees.
While Seattle's growth plan remains paralyzed by legal appeals, the former Reagan Dunn staffer helping Sara Nelson run her new op-ed site is advocating for moving Washington's Urban Growth Boundary. Three percent of SEATTLE is zoned for mid-rise housing.

It is particularly sad that one of the leading NIMBY litigants here is a Seattle Symphony musician. The SSO has improved substantially in recent years, and even more since Xian Zhang became music director. Continued improvement will require more money - and that requires more growth of the city.

Pinehurst Station cost less than the three new parking garages that Sound Transit is currently building in Sumner, Kent, and Auburn but we don't talk about that
Unless somebody kept the receipt and Kiewit has a really good return policy, imho the time for dunking on Pinehurst Station has passed. It's built, now we upzone the heck out of the area & take a bulldozer to the fence around the soon-to-be-former golf course so the rest of us get to use the spot.

Unfortunately, @transportation.seattle.gov needs to face up to the fact that, if it wants to achieve Vision Zero, we can't have multi-lane streets anymore. One in each direction, plus a bus lane, is the maximum that can be made safe.

This article has a basic factual error. The rapid ride R will not come less frequently than the 7.
I lived off Rainier for a long time, and the only thing that made grocery shopping possible was the fact that there was a stop right by my apartment. Accessing stores, the food bank, schools, work, and more is going to become more challenging when people have to travel long distances between stops.

I hope the stop spacing debate around RR R doesn’t poison opinion on the rest of the project. The redesign of the north part of Rainier has the potential to make the whole area feel less like the side of a highway and more like a neighborhood, and we need the additional segments of bus lane stat.
King County could advance $64 million out of a total $91.2 million cost for the RapidRide R Line project in the upcoming budget, in a bid to accelerate bus upgrades along Rainier Avenue. Story: www.theurbanist.org/zahilay-prop...
What on earth would “road capacity” mean in Bellevue? Widening 9-lane NE 8th St to 11 lanes? Tearing down a bunch of skyscrapers to widen other downtown streets from 5 to 7 lanes? It’s nonsensical even on its own silly terms.
The Bellevue Council is considering a potential 0.1% sales tax and $20 car tab for transportation in a budget work session tonight. Kemper Development is here asking for those new dollars to be focused on road capacity, calling bike and pedestrian improvements "lower demand infrastructure."

interesting that conservatives were militantly “we must reward hustle” when the target was affirmative action at elite universities and now, when faced with the success of south asians and other groups, it is “i think we are too meritocratic”

This seems like a pretty major scandal. Sound Transit needs to immediately remove this photo of a candidate for office at a brand new station in the district in which she is currently running.
@sound-transit.bsky.social, could someone explain why you put a big photo of District 5 City Council Candidate Julie Kang at the newly opened Pinehurst Station? This is an outrageous use of public resources. This photo needs to be taken down, or at least covered up, until after the election.
There is no possible articulable reason for this decision except sheer bloodthirstiness. Something has gone deeply, deeply wrong with the basic moral structure of the American right wing.

My most radical take is that TOD is a scam invented by single-family home preservationists to find a scientifically sound way to concentrate "those people" is specific areas outside of where real people live, and urbanists have embraced it because it's better than nothing.
