I think for much of my career, my imposter syndrome compelled me to work longer because it felt necessary to output the quality of work expected of me. Besides recent promotions showing me the existence of that IS, this highlights an interesting problem in the age of AI.

Working longer used to be a purely personal choice; it was my time. And I could use it to explore nice-to-have software updates that might not otherwise get time approval. But now it's not just my time. It's my company's tokens. Unless I have a surplus, I can't just use them willy-nilly.

That's an unexpected angle to the new normal. AI is a force multiplier but it also steals away people's opportunities to work longer if they want or need, and steals away opportunities for pet projects that could expand their experience and even benefit companies. So many unexpected angles to AI.

Want to troll the fuck out of Trump? Give Melania the Nobel Peace Prize for the Oleshky ceasefire. Also, this is so reminiscent of her having an anti-bullying campaign on the backdrop of Trump's completely opposite behaviors.

1. Get the urge to play Cyberpunk 2. Delete a bunch of shit so there's room to install it 3. Update graphics drivers 4. Update mods, try to get DLSS5 working (and giving up) 5. Start the game 6. Create the character 7. Immediately realize the urge wasn't that strong 8. Stare at monitor, bored

Simultaneously: a) Normalize anyone being an "enemy" by naming anyone that who does anything you don't like, b) Weaken the idea of "citizenship" c) Paint killing "enemies" as patriotism and entertainment Gee. I wonder where the fuck all this leads. ๐Ÿค”

Eric Schmitt got every detail right about Jack Smithโ€˜s basketball game. Except the team, the league, the gender, the city and the state. Magats constantly prove the infinite depth of their stupidity.

For the umpteenth time I've been blocked by someone for simply pointing out a falsehood in some argument they've made. That kind of fragility _does_ make it kind of hard to see the left actually capable of standing up in a real fight.

I don't know if Reagan was complicit or just ignorant, but he ushered us onto an unsustainable path. All "Tickle-Down" did was make it more cost-effective for the wealthy to hoard; to chase dollars that the prior highly progressive tax brackets actually coerced downward. He killed real trickle-down.

Annnnnd neither my M.2 nor SSD drives have enough space to pimp out my Skyrim with a mod pack. And I can't fit a second M.2 until I upgrade my motherboard, which means upgrading my CPU and memory, and 64GB of DDR5 only costs a thousand damn dollars. Never upgrading again.

Oil companies love high oil prices. Their percentage markups turn into a lot more real dollars and they know, one way or another, Americans will find a way to pay. This is undoubtedly why so many nations socialize their oil industries. It's a product critical to societal function (for now).

Gas prices hit $4.46 a gallon today โ€” a gain of 17 cents over the previous week and $1.26 higher than the same point last year. Diesel prices are up more than $2.74 from a year ago. Families, farmers, and truckers are all getting squeezed. Meanwhile...

Also worth noting that if we got our shit together and socialized it, it would become immeasurably easier to deprecate it in favor of better energy sources. Wealth hoarders couldn't use their money and influence to fight the transition at every turn.

Of course they're against Sharia Law. One of its tenants is that contracts between parties must be fulfilled. Now laws enforcing contracts are illegal because they're a part of Sharia Law. Not to mention laws against fraud.

Performance politics to take away from the fact that your party is a massive fiscal failure. @electevanhunt.bsky.social

I mean, I think I get it. A lot of people are ego-driven and were raised to think certain things are "weaknesses" and that you must never show "weakness". Thing is... a person gets to decide what's "weak". And most intelligent people don't feel threatened by admitting they don't know everything.

Sometimes a thing is just so unbelievability stupid that all you can do is laugh at the absurdity. The alternative is to fall into a pit of frustration and despair at what the world puts in front of us. Completely unrelated side thought: why exactly does the right always feel condescended to?

This is absolutely needed AND it has to be global. We're in an arms race. Not just between these companies but between countries. And much like with nuclear proliferation, everyone involved needs to scale down together. That means a global effort, likely the UN, and strong world leadership.

The most fucking frustrating thing is knowing that, if Trump goes down and Democrats reclaim power, Republicans/conservatives will IMMEDIATELY hold the Democrat to INSANELY different standards than they ever held Trump. It's been that way my entire life and the right's only gotten worse and worse.

I think I just thought of a use for image gen AI that might have benefits that outweigh the cost: Every single time some MAGA takes a selfie with a gun, swap it with other items and blast it back at them. Or just generally do it for anything MAGA. AI's an amplifier, so let's use it for good.

My loyalty is to the facts. Whether it's coming from the left or right, if I see misinformation being spread, I'll call it out. And I oppose it even more fiercely if it's coming from the left. I hold my own side to a higher standard.

Fucking this๐Ÿ‘‡ We hired a new cashier. While discussing the correct way to lift a heavy box, he lets slip that he was stronger with testosterone shots. Then looks at us in horror and begs us not to fire him. I fucking hate this for them. We promised him he was in a safe space.

First of all, knowing him he's probably still being a lying piece of shit. But. He didn't claim to have been there ON 9/11. He claims to have been there the following day and was rushed away when there were signs of collapse. Keep to the facts, peeps. They're on our side.
