Yeah, formal methods are great and a tool I’m happy it’s becoming easier to use. But they’re just that: a tool. They’re not a silver bullet that will suddenly make your code bug-free.

rain 🌦️@sunshowers.io

Reminder that "formally proved program X" is a meaningless statement. You formally prove that some program or a reduced model of it upholds some kind of property or invariant

Amazing how quickly we went from "oh no LLMs are going to flood the Internet with insecure code" to "oh no LLMs have discovered the internet was already flooded with insecure code"

If I had a nickel for every time a major security incident involving the number "4" impacted me, I'd have two nickels. Which is really not enough because it's log4j and now this "4 being a perfectly good production private key" bullshit.

This is silly, of course they’re meaningfully different. One is a cyberpunk-ish sci-fi story and the other is progression fantasy.

I'm not opposed at all to guilty pleasure reading. I do it a lot. I just don't understand the desire to say there's no meaningful difference between, like, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, and Dungeon Crawler Carl, because after all you might like both.

“reposting” is v funny. you can have a whole relationship with someone online that’s effectively just printing out things they said and stapling them to the front of your house while otherwise never speaking to each other

I would just like to highlight some personal growth and my ability to change my opinion on things. I would also like to apologize to Mike Bobo, because I never realized all he was missing was a mustache.

Man, it feels like I'm in college again 'cause I'm begging UGA to fire Mike Bobo again. #cfb #uga #collegefootball

i mean, just look at how the populists talked about the railroad barons and others like them. "The fruits of the toil of millions are boldly stolen to build up colossal fortunes, unprecedented in the history of the world, while their possessors despise the republic and endanger liberty."

jamelle@jamellebouie.net

plenty of 20th century examples by my 19th century-pilled mind goes immediately to the railroads, which were HUGELY DISRUPTIVE and deeply enmeshed in politics in ways quite analogous to silicon valley and AI

This was a good talk, you should read this.

If you want a Sunday morning longread I wrote up a rough version of the talk I gave at LDX3 this week on the Manager's Path in the Age of AI skamille.medium.com/the-managers...

Replying to @swtch.com

Also worth remembering that people are responsible for running these AI systems. They choose how to train them, how to run them, how to let them interact with their environments, how to use their outputs. Claims by AI companies that "AI will kill us all" are passive voice on steroids.

Slow down frontier model development. Bring open weights to current frontier. Build out local inference providers, stabilize hardware prices, focus on cost and token throughput for a bit. Get our software updated to handle what's being thrown at us. I would not mind spending a beat on distribution.

Absolutely thrilled that the only approved AI tools at $DAYJOB are Cursor and these chucklefucks.

at this point i figure it's all projection and anthropic has a bioweapon lab, given especially directly militarizing LLMs for "cyberwarfare"

Independent of policy debates about existential risk, it is worth noting that even if AI development stopped today with the models we have right now, we would still have at least a decade of roiling change throughout much of work, education, and social life as harnesses improve & AI diffuses further

Hi, I didn't wanna make this video but I need to come clean about something. This whole time I've been a p-zombie with no phenomenal experience or interiority. I've been getting messages asking whether there's anything it's like to be me, and the answer is no. I'd say I'm sorry, but, well, you know.
