ProPublica has found multiple cases of women with underlying health conditions who died when they couldn’t access abortions. Tierra Walker, a 37-year-old mother, was told by doctors there was no emergency before preeclampsia killed her. (Published Nov. 2025)

The Trump admin placed more pregnant immigrants in detention last fall and winter than at any time over the previous year. But it appears they are no longer tracking miscarriages. Meanwhile, detained pregnant women are struggling to access routine and emergency medical care.
