Astonishing! During this morning's king tide, Miami crossed the threshold for "Major" flooding without a hurricane for the first time. This was the city's highest water level in 11 years, and 3rd-highest since 1994. Yellow highlights: 8 of 14 top spots are from king tides during the past 2 years.

Firefox is also the only mainstream browser that allows you to use extensions that will completely block the popups from Google and Edge telling you to use their browsers. If you use Edge or Chrome, you're just picking which annoying popups you want to deal with. Firefox + uBlock can kill them both.

An incredible deep-dive must-read for California! The ECMWF ensemble says most coastal CA locations have ~10-20% risk of a record-wet winter. King tides will be >1-2' above normal, and a strong storm during the king tides could "produce widespread damaging, and probably historic, coastal flooding."

This is extraordinary on many levels. A programming coup. If I'm understanding this properly (and I may not be), the development team on this essentially reverse-engineered Adobe's proprietary code, dramatically improved on it, removed bloat, made it more efficient, and released it as open source.

James O'Malley@jamesomalley.co.uk

Holy shit. Someone has decompiled the Adobe suite, rebuilt it in Rust and released it as open source. Either all software is dead or the US copyright laws are about to receive an update. getartcraft.com/apps

That the open source code it's already out there and downloaded by all of Adobe's competitors is a win for everybody but Adobe, a company that's been operating like a monopoly for decades.

This is a rare case of bipartisan politics that shows how government should work. Support for this spans the political spectrum, and the legislation proposed was thoughtful and genuinely aimed at solving a problem. Encouraging on all fronts.

Worth emphasizing that there are several layers of nuts here. If Smith had gone to an NBA game in Atlanta, that wouldn’t indicate he’d met with Willis. (Why would anyone go to the trouble, rather than just having a phone call?) And if he had met with Willis… that wouldn’t be any sort of scandal.
