Being a video game writer has to be hell. >write asshole character called "Jimmy the Asshole" >be bombarded with complaints that Jimmy's an asshole >legions of tumblrites that inexplicably want to fuck him >republicans unironically admire him >800,000 downloads for BIG TITTY ANIME JIMMY on Nexus

I would be absolutely thrilled to see the federal government actually help our creative industries after nothing but year after year of layoffs and cuts.

Gods it's disheartening going to discuss the BioWare closure today, and finding many people and communities dog piling on it, saying it was deserved, and their "last releases were dogshit anyways". Just because the old guard was gone doesn't mean those that remain weren't passionate people who cared

Playing Mass Effect and Dragon age helped formulate who I am as a human being. Working for BioWare on the remastered trilogy was the first job I ever had in tech. The studio, the people within, and the games they made were all hugely influencial on some of the most significant aspects of my life.

it cannot actually be ignored or danced around that the closure of BioWare came so soon after the Saudi and Jared Kushner acquisition of EA. they absolutely did take the studio making EA’s broadly queerest games out back and shoot it old yeller style. do not let yourself or colleagues ignore that

Last week, I finally had enough with the CBC refusing to fact check Smith’s lie that this referendum is the result of the Citizen Initiative Act. The response was to claim oh but it’s the “spirit of the law!”and my follow up.

Are you an Epic Games employee with thoughts on the company's pivot towards GenAI and how it's handling that messaging? I would be extremely interested in hearing them. Happy to chat confidentially. Email: chris.kerr@verticalslice.news Signal: kerrblimey.43

Yesterday, Wizards informed us that it doesn’t intend to voluntarily recognize the D&D or Studio X units of our union ahead of a vote. We remain committed to creating a workplace focused on wellness, transparency, and collaboration by winning our coming election.

DISASTER! Due to our printer accidentally dropping a hyphen, everyone at Leder Games is frantically trying to design a "56 player" expansion for Kart.

I feel like I'm in a weird state with many of what I would call peers in the TTRPG space online. There are so many people that I engage with, some of which I've worked with professionally, and in my brain our like 'relationship' is way closer to the 'friendship-ish' side of things than it should be.

But when I really think about it, most of these people I've had like, maybe passing conversations with, and don't know me, my deal, or my involvement in things. And that's fair! But I think because of it all being internet based has my brain making parasocial connections that don't exist.

jess is right! it’s worse than ever for women in this field, and it was still pretty bad at our peak. im one of the lucky freelancers who has regular work (probably work more than i did at polygon!), and it’s still not a livable amount of pay. it’s pushing important and skilled women out.

And it’s gotten worse! Ask any woman in this industry and they’ll tell you that. Over the past few years, it has gotten so much worse. I see all these talented writers you all tokenized five years ago who have now been pushed out because you stopped caring. Stopped performing. And I’m just so angry.

Sadly I have been let go from Wizards today as part of a bigger corporate restructure. Obviously I'm gutted and I will miss working on a game I love alongside some really incredible people. I'm glad that I get to look back at my work on MagicCon and Final Fantasy and be proud.

I’ve been running Mistborn Legacy every two weeks since playtesting, and prep today was the easiest it’s been the entire time because of @roll20.net 🎉🎉
