it's that time of the year when the local Bluebell Railway advertises their fucking terrifying halloween train originally I thought this was a mockup or something but no it actually looks like that

you know it's a great day on the internet when "global emergency disconnect all infra from internet kill switch" should probably be put on your next meeting agenda

serious "get fucked" to the Apple Watch programmers who decided that the best time to push a "Low Cardio Health" notification is directly after each exercise session you do which is designed to address that, presumably because it has just measured it. talk about demoralising

I really thought the new Apple Home product releases would make this an expensive month for me. Every room in the house has a homepod, and I have an iPad on the wall for smart home control. Every TV runs an Apple TV. I am _primed_ for this event, right?

Nope, the only thing I ended up buying was the new generation Siri Remote, because the old one doesn't work properly any more. HomeView is _interesting_ but nothing in it is essential. It's less capable than the iPad-on-a-wall. The new Apple TV doesn't do anything I need.

I can’t wait for the next episode which is also, conveniently, an architect failing to make buildable plans and not realising how that looks

"It didn't do it before" "We now respect websites more" ??? I can maybe buy that this will convince more sites to integrate passkeys in general, but the double-speak here is frustrating as hell

"Accidentally safe through strategic neglect" okay first of all RUDE, by being out of date I have successfully avoided us being open to a CVE, how about some positive framing of the issue

My wife is just revealed that in order to read books faster, she will listen to the audiobook WHILE reading the e-book. At the same time. Is this common? Is my wife broken?

I accused her of this being like adding powdered milk to milk to have more milk per milk, but she didn’t seem to like that analogy

so, I did, and now I have: - no AI prompts - no Google Lens - no "app install" icons - no "reader mode" gumph thanks enterprise policy!!

one of my favourite “bits” recently was entering a prize draw at a hotel on an industrial estate during an event. I won a night at that hotel. Attended with slightly annoyed wife and enjoyed the buffet breakfast on a random week day.

so I told the CEO it sounds like he’s just feeding tokens to Steve Yegge and then his accountant started crying

Ed@ed3d.net

From Yegge's most recent extrusion: > On the side I do occasional six-figure gigs where I fly to companies and teach them my techniques, and that helps with my (considerable) token bills. Hey! I will come teach your teams actual ball, things they can actually use, for *substantially* less!

going on a three hour car journey tomorrow and my partner is currently cooking, with the intention of eating, boiled cabbage and lentils

finally moved all my zigbee devices to a co-ordinator which can map the connectivity graph around the house and I'm now mad at how it has decided to mesh together what do you MEAN a work lamp in the living room is co-ordinating half the other side of the house

me: very high energy bills my energy provider: we made a digital fish tank if you charge your car :3 ARE YOU BORED? DO YOU NEED SOMETHING TO DO OVER THERE???

Last night, as #EMFCamp came to a close, I heard someone say that everyone, not just billionaires, should be able to "move fast and break things." I disagree. If there's one thing EMF has taught me - this year in particular - it's how to Move Slow and Mend Things. news.kestr.al/move-slow-an...

I think the most important thing you can do (other than volunteer) as an attendee is tell us how *your* #EMFCamp went on the feedback page: https://emfcamp.org/feedback We read absolutely everything and it makes a huge difference to the team to hear that it was worth it

Someone in IKEA came up to me and said “excuse me! Exit?” thinking I was staff I said “I don’t know” reflexively and they walked off talking about how I won’t be able to find my way out either I’m sorry! For next time just follow the arrows you’ll get there

I keep a spare Android around so I know how to use them. Updated to one on Android 17! Very up to date. Pleased to report they're still an absolute hot mess as evidenced by the official Facebook app in the official Play Store having the description of "hacked"

This is a Pixel, Google's own handset. I beg of manufacturers, use your own device for five minutes every now and then and maybe write down the obviously bad stuff you experience

Screen protector multipacks are great, because the first is simply a threat to any that come next They will watch incompetence be rewarded with the bin, and learn fear. Keeps them in line

Great times here in Kent as the council have changed the tip booking system for the third time, resulting in nobody knowing how to use the new one, never seen so many slots available. I look forward to the next booking system in 6 months time
