15 years ago when Apocalypse World was new and people were beginning to understand and work with it, it was seductive to look at "acting under fire" and see, not one basic move of several, but the template underlying all the game's moves. Like @kierongillen.bsky.social 's classic gag:

friends, I have to tell you: this episode rules

grateful to Andrew for naming a faction "the Canorain Dawn" so that when it came time for this, I could retroactively refer to the last days of the war as the "Dusk of Canorai" just in time to play Dusk to Midnight

One of my favorite and most effective design patterns is "tell the player exactly what you're gonna do to them, then do it." You can be SIGNIFICANTLY meaner to the player if you simply tell them ahead of time that that's exactly what you'll be doing, and also the suspense of the warning is a delight

I feel like i say this every month but...... october's episode of echo chamber is so good and I'm so excited for people to hear it

No thoughts, only this bat from the opening credits of My Neighbor Totoro (1988).
