So... That Turning Point/UVF documentary with all the people admitting to actual crimes is going nowhere except the memory hole then, huh? Damn, you'd think that'd be at least one or two real journalists in the country capable of feeling shame about what that says about the industry.

lol

Among a gathering of Berkeley intellectuals I struck a conversation with writer Marian Kester about American politics. She told me I should pay attention to the convergence of the extreme left and the extreme right in the paranoid worldview of Lyndon LaRouche, about whom I knew nothing. (1980)

People are giving Democrats lots of tactical reasons not to be transphobic but they're not doing it for tactual reasons, they're being lobbied (bribed) to be bigots.

liberals think human laws are laws of nature. this is like when I told my father that we need to get to net zero -now- and he told me that’s “not realistic” what’s not realistic is expecting the laws of physics to change because human laws take a long time.

Pogroms in the North were a shop window for international extremism. Cash for UVF killings, loyalists organising political 'rallies' for cash, paramilitary links to NI. We've been naming the international extremists flooding NI during the summer, many visiting loyalists in loyalist strongholds.

Glasgow specifically gets mentioned quite a lot here. Not surprising considering our historic links with the UVF and loyalist racism. Definitely something folk need to watch. I'll be surprised if the police actually do something about Turning Point despite them admitting they're breaking the law.

At least 12 hours after airing and this is not on the homepages of the BBC or the Guardian. How is this not news??? You can understand the Telegraph or the Mail burying it on page 1488 but how are you NOT writing this up??

We are living through a trans genocide in the UK. Trans people facing corridor care is far from new but these guidelines have already killed Joelle, it has killed others and it will kill more. When we say trans healthcare is under attack we mean it in every way possible.

The purpose of these kinds of fines is to push people on the edge of poverty into debt and prison.

Look, I hate dickheads playing music on trains as much as anyone, but this is completely unenforceable. Meanwhile we're into the 4th week of gangs of fascists attacking houses in Salford and Burnham hasn't even mentioned it. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

They weren’t moderates, they were anti-democracy monarchists. The far left refused to cooperate with moderates because they wanted a revolution just like Russia’s 10 years earlier that created despotism. Communists and conservatives were far more to blame for Hitler than social democrats.

Saw someone talking about the UK potentially mandating an energy ration as if it was some ridiculous suggestion and not something everyone I know has to do. When I mention I've had the heating on people always go "woah, so early? I'm waiting as long as I can"

People are so market-brained that they can't see what the government is literally making them do. If you use one hand to give someone cash then charge them with the other you can justify pretty much anything in this country.

"but the government can't control money" That's literally what a state is! This entire system is enforced by the state!

US gun laws aren't actually that much more lax than other countries, what's unique to the US is the misanthropy and alienation.

Okay so Zionism is racism, glad we agree.

George Monbiot@georgemonbiot.bsky.social

So you could reasonably argue that an *outcome* of Zionism is racism. But that is not the same as stating “Zionism is racism”. Racism is not where it came from. It is not what motivated the deep yearning for safety, for a refuge, whether 80 years ago or 800.

Interestingly, the production company for this seems to have a HQ in Glasgow: The Hub, 70 Pacific Quay, Glasgow G51 1EA, United Kingdom

This is already happening in the US, in case anyone has forgotten or thinks it's impossible.

Robert Jenrick for Reform says that Royal Marines using "lethal force" on small boats could end it in days. "Deploy the Royal Marines into the Channel. If they need to use lethal force then they'll be able to do so. I think the problem would come to an end within a matter of days."

Using fascist reasoning to attack a fascist leader is a perfect example of liberal ideology.

Okay, so could we possibly, I dunno, say, do some investigative journalism into where the funding streams for these clearly astroturfed groups are coming from? (Spolier: it's American Christian Dominionists. The money is coming from ultra-rich American Christian Dominionists).

theguardian.comChristian nationalism in Britain driven by people who seldom go to church, says reportResearch challenges the notion that the growing visibility of crosses and other symbols reflects a revival of Christianity

This is absolutely garbage survival advice as well. Best things you can do are: get to know your neighbours and buy/get a licence for a radio

On Halloween I'm going to go and knock on the doors of all the drug dealers that leave their cars running outside my flat

If anyone starts a post criticising "the left" rest assured they have made up someone to get mad at. "The left" doesn't exist and isn't any group with a coherent set of beliefs.

I was tempted to pirate HP, curiosity and all that. But @jessiegender.bsky.social is right - think of the amount of times HBO commented on GOT leaks and downloads, just as an example. They DO track these things, and even that drives interest. Let this show die. Trans people deserve better.

If you told me you were making a "grown-up" or "adult" version of a series of children's books I would pat you gently on the shoulder. That sounds rubbish.

A lot of people are criticising the Greens for giving the press ammunition to use against them in an election. I thought we had learned that they don't need it? The press can make their own ammunition. By all means criticise their point directly but let's not act like this is their downfall.
